Wickliffe is a small town in Morrow County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Morrow metropolitan area. Wickliffe is known for its Wickliffe Brewery and the annual Wickliffe Pumpkin Festival. The first settler in what is now Wickliffe was James Wickliffe, who arrived in 1814. He named his land "Wickliffe". In 1828, he built a log cabin on the present site of the current town hall. In 1836, when Ohio became a state, Wickliffe incorporated as a village. The first post office opened in 1840; it was called "Wickville". A second post office opened in 1847; it was called "Wickcliffe". On January 1st 1860, Wickcliffe merged with neighboring Village of Centerville to form the new town of Wicklowe. On February 9th 1861, Congressman John Cramer introduced legislation to rename what are now Wadsworth and Perry Streets as Hickory and Myrtle Streets after General George Biddle Hickory (1812-1875), one of America's most famous generals during the American Civil War (1861-1865). Wickliffe was a small community in the Miamisburg Township, Columbiana County, Ohio, United States. The post office at Wickliffe was established in 1814, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. The settlement started as a small farming community on the southeastern edge of what is now Wickliffe Township. By 1820, Wickliffe had a population of about fifty people. In 1824, the first school was built in Wickliffe by teacher Isaac Coffin. In 1828, when Ohio became a state, Wickliffe voted to become part of that state. However, it stayed within Columbiana County until 1830 when it seceded to form its own township. Wickliffe had a two-story log cabin as its first home around 1834. It also had an early Methodist Church which served the community for many years before being destroyed in 1951 by fire. The present day chapel was built nearby in 1954 and dedicated to William Hickman who donated land for the chapel project.
