Wickliffe, Ohio is home to the United States Army's 4th Infantry Division. The division was founded on November 1, 1892 and has fought in many wars including World War I and II. The division is currently headquartered at Fort Knox in Kentucky. In 1951, Wickliffe became the first city in Ohio to have a military airport. In 2009, Wickliffe was also the site of an international military parade honoring America's Armed Forces.

Wickliffe is a small town in Steuben County, Ohio, United States. The population was 596 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Springfield, OH-KY-IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. Wickliffe is located on the eastern bank of the Cuyahoga River and is bordered by Lima to the east, Bethel to the north, and Miamisburg to the west. The first settler in Wickliffe was James Wickliffe who came from England in 1786. He built a log cabin on what is now State Road 10 near present day Wadsworth Avenue. The original name for Wickliffe was "Burnt Hickory". In 1813, John Hicks purchased land fromJames Wickliffe and named it Hicksville after himself and his brother Jonathan Hicks (1768-1838). On November 30th of that year, Jonathan Hicks donated land for a Methodist church which he also built. This new church became known as "Wickliffe Methodist Episcopal Church" or simply "Wickie". In 1827 Eliza Ann Washburn bought land from John Hicks and named it after her motherwidow Sarah Washburn (1782-1857). She also built a house on this property which she called "the old woman's house" or "the lady's house". In 1830 Isaac Newcomb arrived in Wicklowe with his family from Connecticut. Newcomb operated a ferry across the river between Wicklowe Landing and Lima until 1836 when he transferred his business to Miamisburg because there were no crossings available over the Cuyahoga River then! He died there in 1844 at age 83 years old. His son George Newcomb took over operations of the ferry until 1951 when it closed due to corrosion problems! Newcomb had two daughters: Lydia Newcomb (1831-1907) who married Hiram Sibley (1849-1931)and Anna Seward (born about 1840), both women also operated ferries acrossriver during their careers; Lucy Lovejoy Wanamaker (born about 1840) married Samuel Gridley Huntress(1832-1900). Anna Seward Newcombe became managing director of WCRX radio station while her daughter Lucy Lovejoy Wanamaker served as general manager beginning in 1935 before retiring in 1957; Mary Storer Neely (born c 1850)married Emmet Janssens(1847-1915)]. From these marriages offspring continued operation of ferries acrossriver: Lillie Wanamaker Neely married Edward Bean(c 1870-)in 1889; Alice Wanamaker Neely married Sanford Biddle(c 1880-)in 1909; MinnieWanamer Neely married Arthur Hockaday(c 1890-)in 1912]. Today there are only three remaining Ferries operating alongCuyahoga River - one boat operates each way between Cincinnati & Toledo via Perrysburg & Riverside Park ; another boat operates between Cleveland & Akron via Ashland Heights & Ashtabula ; and still another boat operates between Dayton & Springvale via Youngstown . In 1865 Isaac Soames moved into town from Muscatine County IL where he had been living since 1854 working for an undertaker named Hullsmeyer& Son Incorporated prior to that date being associated with Hancock Funeral Home Company . Soames started a grocery store on Main Street which later evolved into what is now First Baptist Church . For many years Soames' daughter Lois acted as treasurer/manager of First Baptist Church... Wickliffe is a town in Butler County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,574 at the 2010 census. Wickliffe is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Wickliffe was James Witherspoon, who arrived in 1813. He named his land "Wickliffe" after his friend and neighbor on the east side of the Scioto River, Colonel John Wicklow. The first post office was established in Wickliffe on July 20, 1824 by Daniel Boone. It was renamed to Dayton in 1850. In 1896, it became a part of the Dayton-Middletown metropolitan area and has since been one of its most populous municipalities. In 2000, it annexed the adjacent communities of Arlington Heights and Mayfield Heights to form a new city with a total population of over 100,000 people; however this annexation did not take place until 2011 due to an issue with zoning laws that had been amended since 1990 when Wickliffe's incorporation as an unincorporated village took place. This annexation means that Wickliffe now forms one municipality with a total population over 100K residents and falls within both Municipal Court (which deals with all water issues) as well as City Services which include Fire Protection/Emergency Responserastructure (police officers etc.), Streets & Roads Dept., Parks & Recreation Department etc...
The town of Wickliffe, Ohio was founded in 1824 by the parents of abolitionist John Brown. Brown and his men had traveled to Kentucky to free slaves when they were attacked by a group of white men. The men killed four people, including Brown's father, before escaping back to Ohio. Wickliffe became an early settlement in what is now the state of Ohio.
