Whitehall is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Bedford, Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,584 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Whitehall comes from the French word "village," which means "settlement." The first white settlers in what is now Whitehall Township were Case and David Smith in 1814. In 1837, James W. White purchased land in what is now Whitehall Township and built a home there that still stands today. The community's name was changed to Bedford after General Bedford Forrest's headquarters were located here during the American Civil War on September 11th, 1861. The area now known as Whitehall was originally part of Bedford Township until it was reabsorbed into Hamilton County on April 1, 1907. Prior to this date it had been part of Scioto Township northwest of Dayton. On February 17th, 1912 Whitesiders erected a stone monument to Unknown Soldiers who died in World War I at Arlington Cemetery near Dayton while serving with Company K2/214 Infantry battalion from Scott Mills Army Ammunition Plant Camp (now Austintown). This monument has since been moved to its current location across from the former Scott Mills plant site on Green Street off US Highway 22 just east of I-675 exit 10A (the old route 9a). On December 3rd 1915 local citizens raised $1,500 for war bonds by selling candy bars at their homes before Christmas Day morning. On February 6th 1916 President Woodrow Wilson delivered an address calling for compulsory military service in America and pledging 5 million dollars towards this effort; over 15 years later only 8% of Americans had fulfilled their wartime pledges although more than onethird had served abroad!

Whitehall was a small settlement located in what is now Warren County, Ohio, United States. It was founded by Col. James W. White in 1821 as the town of Portsmouth on the Scioto River, after he and his family moved from Delaware Township. In 1825, Whitehall became the county seat of Warren County and continued to be so until it was moved to Cleveland in 1898. The first post office at Whitehall was established in 1826; it operated under the name Portsmouth until 1830. The town's only store failed after just a few months operation due to low population levels and lack of business competition; however, another store opened up soon afterward which lasted for many years. In 1829-30, Whitehall built an academy which served as the local schoolhouse from 1830 to 1870. The first courthouse was also built in this time period and served as the court house for much ofWarren County until it burned down in 1851. In 1840, followingsurvey findings that white settlers were draining large areas of central Ohio REDUCEando its water supply), Gov. Richard Mccarty ordered a census of all white landowners within Warren County who had owned more than one hundred acres (40 hectares). Results showed that only about twenty-five individuals actually lived or agricultural production increased significantly with only 2%. A new courthouse was constructed — still standing today — at Whitehall between1846 and 1850 due largely to financial support from prominent citizens such as judge John Prentice and Congressman Thaddeus Stevens . This courthouse remained operational until 1893 when it too burned down . During Reconstruction followingthe Civil War, starting in 1865Whitehall became known as "the most important black center"inOhio because almost all white business owners working with blacks were located there including major banks such as JnoMoses & Co., Trustees National Bank Of Cleveland (), First National Bank Of Cleveland (),and others .
