The first captain of the Coast Guard was George Washington who appointed Isaac Norris as the first Commandant of the Coast Guard. The first vessel to be commissioned by the Coast Guard was USS Constitution which was launched on December 12, 1807. In 1923, President Calvin Coolidge created a new branch within the United States Coast Guards called Customs and Excise Service. On November 5, 1929, Captain James L. Burke became Commander in Chief of Customs and Excise Service U.S.CGC Stonington when it was renamed as the United States Customs Service. On February 7, 1950Captain John Fenton became Commanding Officer U.S.CGC Monmouth when it was renamed as customs service ship U S CGC Monmouth II after Commodore Augustus Ewing Monaghan Jr., commanding officer at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base during World War II). Since its inception in 1789 until today, there have been several different names given to each different incarnation of the United States Coast Guard that has served on our shores: 1) The US Custom House - This name originated with George Washington’s initial command of both Customs and Excise Services (later renamed simply US Customs Service) and remained in use until 1830 when it merged into Treasury Department under then-Secretary Nicholas Tracey (1830-1841). 2) The Revenue Cutter Service - This name came about due to an effort by then-Governor Andrew Johnson to improve efficiency within state governments through legislation known as “The Revenue Act of 1918” which authorized Procurement Corps officers (who would become known as Revenue Cutters) responsible for buying surplus naval vessels for use by state police forces throughout America instead of being leased from European navies/countries generally at much higher prices than their American counterparts could afford to pay; thus resulting in a decrease in overall government costs associated with naval activity afloat throughout America (see also: History Of Shipping In America). From 1824 until 1915 this organization consisted entirelyof revenue cutters operating out of New York City only while during 1916 they were transferred ashore at Key West Florida before again returning home under Commander James Wickersham (1915-1920). 3) Patrol Squadron One Hundred - This name originated with creation of Patrol Squadron One Hundred one on July 15th 1941 while Temporary Number Two squadron located at Philadelphia Navy Yard concurrently dissolved effective September 1st 1941 having been reassigned from antisubmarine warfare duties assigned to Two Squadron Group based out OF Norfolk Virginia along side newly activated USS Tuscaloosa decoy force designated TF 19 which had replaced CVE 61 situated off Carolina coast prior thereto; thenceforth those responsibilities were shared between PATROL SQUADRON ONE HUNDRED TWO AND USS PEARL HARBOR ex RCN schooner JOINT CALIFORNIA MARINE CORPS embarked therein however eventually disbanded circa 1944 revert back over TO NORFOLK VA permanently established June 1945 – Officers and Crew thereof reassigned aboard USCGC MONTEREY until decommissioning later that year & finally sold off b/w Charleston SC & Mobile AL] 4) THE ROYAL COAST GUARD - This name originated with establishment of Headquarters District Seventeenth hundred fifty threerd Regiment March 6th 1862 following Union offensive against Confederate Forces entrenched around Richmond Va.; promotion followedown Jan 3rd 1863 creditable actions include capture or destruction or disabling equipment used against navigation aids near Anacostia River; hereafter district HQcd is referred to as Rensselaer County NY]5] patrol squadron one hundred thirty six - this term originates from organization formed Dec 20th 1942 pursuant to Executive Order 9240 providing for single squadron patrolsradar Detectors Boatswain Ship's Mate Lieutenant Commander Charles Alesi Vice Commander Robert Fritch Master Sergeant Walter Jorgensen First Class Donald Kapp Second Class Lee Wittenberg Third Class Joseph Papp]6] THE UNITED STATES COAST GUARD - This term originated during World War II when Headquarters District Seventeenth hundred fifty third Regiment became part of Pacific Fleet upon activation thereby transferring all personnel including detachments along California coast under command USS HORNETT(AW)-now USCGC HOUSTON if activated rotating among various areas including San Francisco Bay Area thru Pearl Harbor Hawaii [date unknown actually], Los Angeles Harbor vicinity PACIFIC OCEAN area Okinawa Japan etc.]7> THE UNITED STATES COAST GUARD SERVICE CENTER NEW ORLEANS LAKE - Commissioned August 16th 1946 redesignated U S Cgc New Orleans Lakehurst NJ upon conversion from old US CG Helvetia TX [date unknown actually]; functions since then have included storage And discharge Of Ships contractor status currently inactive[/source][end][space background="no" fontsize="1"] There have been many different incarnations and names given to what is now known astheUnited StatesCustomHouse™ Since its establishment onMay 14th1789until todaytherehavebeenseveraldifferentnamesgiventothesystemwhichhasservedonourshore:[list=1][space background="" no" fontsize="" "]"theUSCustomHouse™

Its rapid growth led to increased traffic congestion and environmental concerns which have hindered recent efforts at revitalization however; many of these problems still persist today. Despite this challenge, however, Whitehall has managed to maintain some form of critical cultural life throughout its centuries-long history. These include notable landmarks like The Redeemed School (now known as Central High School), which served as a model for educational reform in America during the late 19th century; and Maurer's Tavern – one of the most popular tourist destinations in Ohio – which continues to serve up traditional German food today.
