Westlake is a small town in the northwest corner of Ohio, United States. It is located on the Scioto River and has a population of 5,779 as of the 2010 census. The first residents of Westlake were Native Americans who lived there for hundreds of years prior to European arrival. The first white settlers arrived in 1813 and began building homes and businesses. In 1825, the community was named after General James Westmoreland, who fought in the Mexican-American War. After his death, his widow decided to name her new settlement after him. The town was incorporated in 1836 and became part of Columbiana County. Westlake experienced significant growth during World War II due to its proximity to munitions factories and military posts across the country. During the war, many businesses closed but Westlake continued to grow with new housing developments being built along both the river and roadways near its center. Shortly after the war ended, Westlake underwent a major transformation with the construction of Interstate 74 which connected it directly with Columbus via two bridges over Scioto River. This gave Westlake an influx of new residents and businesses which helped revive its economy during this period. Since 2000, however, Westlake's economic fortunes have begun to decline as manufacturing jobs have become increasingly rarer in Ohio while suburban development has proliferated around it. As a result, local taxes have been raised significantly in order to fund infrastructure projects such as watermain replacements and street repairs that have failed to improve traffic congestion or create any other tangible benefits for locals since they were implemented. Despite these challenges, some residents remain optimistic about their town's future based on its attractions such as shopping opportunities available within walking distance from most stores while also having easy access to public transportation options nearby should problems arise rendering services unavailable or excessively expensive outside areas like downtown Columbus or Cleveland proper).

Westlake is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio, located on the Scioto River. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. Westlake is part of the Dayton metropolitan area and is bordered by Holmesburg to the north, Springfield to the east, Lebanon to the south, and Centerville to the west. It has a ZIP code of 46609. The first people known to live in what is now Westlake were members of the Seneca nation who hunted game along the Scioto River during pre-contact times. In 1805, John Putnam sold land at present-day Westlake for $2 per acre to two German immigrants, August Wilhelm von Allmendinger and Johann Friedrich Hagerty. Hagerty hired surveyor David Riegelman to plat out a township on his land in 1807 and named it after himself – Westlake Township (now Wrightstown). In 1814, General George Washington granted Columbia County its own government with a sheriff and four justices; this was followed byencer Samuel Welles granting similar privileges to Pickering Township in 1815. On February 14th of that year, Arthur Stiles bought from von Allmendinger 1/4 mile (0 km) of both sides of Main Street from modern day Dayton in order that he might build an academy there which would later become Case Western Reserve University - making him one of first white men ever granted such rights in Ohio! This indicates how much importance education had then compared today as it did when first granted! On July 4th 1795 James Caldwells family moved from their home near Xenia on Highways 22 & 25K into what is now called “Caldwells” Lane just off SR 315 North about 10 miles southwest of Dayton where they erected a log cabin which they named “Fenway” after Peter Fenway Jr., their Congressman from Boston who had helped them settle their estate before they went away! Mr Caldwell died soon after however leaving behind his wife Eleanor who married Dr Edwin Stanton who also founded Case Western Reserve University years later! Mrs Caldwell continued living there until her death in 1840 when it was donated by her husband’s will directly to Case Western Reserve University!! When settlers arrived during this time period many were veterans or staff members from British forces stationed abroad including Colonel William Irvine – one such person whose name can be found carved into one side of an old brick building adjacent to Fenway Road near downtown Dayton today! Many early westward migration stories center around soldiers & sailors being shipwrecked on or near these shores so whenever possible farmsstead namesakes are included along with some significant events etcetera… For example: Wadsworthsburg Landing (Hawkeye Lake), Paulding Heights (Mt Pleasant), East Liverpool Landing (Nortonville), Delaware Harbor (Delaware Bay). During construction on Paulding Heights between 1909-1910 several residents put up large boards reading “Welcome To Our New Homes Here InWestlake Ohio”!!! Includes photos too!!! The village formed due largely because Whetstone Dam across river created numerous power pylons needed for irrigation purposes& heavy industry as well as commerce providing jobs for locals [1]. Electric lights came about due company buying powerline right before WWI beganWWI destroyed entire grid system taking electricity with it] but overall community flourished as people settled down started families businesses farming raising livestock ran hotels post office grocery store Masonic lodge new school built 1911
Westlake was founded in 1810 by John and Patsy West. The community developed around a Methodist Episcopal church, which served as the town's primary center of gravity. The first post office was established in 1814, and the first school was opened in 1818. By 1830, Westlake had a population of about 350 residents. It declined during the 1840s and 1850s as agricultural production dwindled and new settlers replaced the previous residents. In 1860, Westlake became an unincorporated community under the jurisdiction of Athens Township. In 1902, it incorporated as a village under the name of Westlake Village. The village worsened during World War II due to its vulnerability to aerial bombardment; however, it survived until 1945 when it was evacuated due to an Allied bombing raid on Athens Township that destroyed most of the town's infrastructure.
