In the early 1960s, grocer Dickenson's opened its doors in downtown Westerville. Dickenson's offered customers fresh roasted beans from their roasting plant located on Third Street. From here, small batch coffee began to spread throughout the city and into other parts of Ohio. Today, small batch coffee is an important part of the community and businesses in Westerville rely on it for their morning joe fix. Westerville is a city in the county of Holmes in Ohio, United States. The population was 41,702 at the 2010 census. The town was established in 1814 by General David Wilkinson and named for his birthplace, Westervelt, New York. Westerville became a city on November 3, 1907. It has been since served as the county seat of Holmes County. The townsite of Westerville was first settled by Evanston Township residents in 1814 as part of the larger Wilkinson Purchase from the Shawnee Indians. At that time, land between Cincinnati and Cleveland lay within what is now Holmes County. The land transfer agreement between General David Wilkinson and his brother-in-law Ezekiel Chandler included 2,500 acres (1 km²) of land west of Discount Street in present-day Westerville and east of where I-275 now lies. When he moved to Westerville from Genoa Township near Dayton after being given 4 square miles (10 km²) thereabouts as part of the purchase agreement, Wilkinson built a log cabin on what would later become Elm Street near Main Street. He renamed it "Westervelt". One early resident who lived in Westervelt during this early period was Drury Cottagewife Jane Cook who resided on Elm street across from Drury's Pharmacy until her death on October 10th 1820 aged 54 years old; one year after Drury had opened his business alone at 114 Elm St., just two doors down from Jane's cottageovernight! In 1840 James Purdon erected a frame house which still stands today at 219 Wacker Drive adjacent to Interstate 75 northbound lanes - much later becoming home to Roger Staubach’s Hudson News Store & Grill! In 1865 Anna Matson bought the house next door for $200 and added an addition that still stands today – an octagon shaped structure with 5 sides containing 7 rooms including a large living room with an original gas light fixture! This building served as both Mrs. Matson's home & place of work until about 1975 when it burned down! A post office called "Westervelt" was established at this location on December 12th 1814 by Major John Dickey with six mail sacks sent daily to Cincinnati via horseback rider John Culbertson; service discontinued February 17th 1830 due to low postal traffic following關于高雄市的火災。 reopening under new name January 1st 1830: "Holmesburg".
