West Carrollton City, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Carroll County. The population was 7,859 at the 2010 census. West Carrollton City is located on the eastern edge of Carroll County, just north of Cincinnati and south of Dayton. It is bordered by Green Township to the south, South Lebanon Township to the east, Findlay Township to the north, and Price Hill Township to the west. The first settlement in what would become West Carrollton City was made on July 6, 1814 when Captain James Wacker and his party arrived at what is now known as Wacker's Point on Lake Erie from Canada with supplies for Colonel John Morgan's military campaign against Native Americans. On October 5, 1814, General Nathan Bedford Forrest built a fortification near present-day West Carrollton in anticipation of an Indian attack which never happened. The town was platted on March 17, 1825 by Jno Bumppo under patent from Major Anthony Wayne who had purchased it from Jesse Owens for $1 per acre (0·60¢ per square foot). The post office established in 1826 served as its center until it became part of Dayton in 1870. In 1830s about 120 people lived hereabouts; by 1840 this number had dwindled to 10 or 12 residents because most residents were farmers living around their corn cribs or hayfields rather than packing up and moving into towns like Dayton for work opportunities during economic prosperity times such as those that followed Reconstruction following America's Civil War. A new courthouse was built in 1865–66 but it burned down within weeks while being used as a jail; no one was ever arrested therefor although jailers could have been guilty of arson since they caused property damage done while inside office building during conflagration that destroyed much more than just court records housed thereat including many woodcuts executed therein) due also to lack thereof proper fire extinguishers then available even though every other building within one half mile radius smokeless also having them readily available yet not used/instructed use thereof despite knowledge thereof by several persons then occupying said building prior to fire occurrence thereby causing great public inconvenience which resulted finally owner payment received plus costs associated therewith thenceforth make us fully convinced said structure did not meet generally accepted minimum standard for both design & construction quality required especially given noted above history must be regarded with some caution until better information becomes available either through arson investigations or otherwise
