Warrensville Heights is named for General James Warren who led American forces during the Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1811. The city was founded on July 4, 1892 by Samuel Prentice and his wife Anna Walton-Prentice. On October 15, 1907, the city became one of 25 cities in America to become a municipal corporation with a mayor and a school board elected at-large rather than through village elections. In 2002, the City Council voted to change its name to Warrensville Heights Township because it felt that its residents had been given too little credit for their accomplishments as an incorporated municipality since incorporation. The economy of Warrensville Heights has been centered around manufacturing since the early days of the city when local farmers produced goods such as flour and feed for rural areas across northeastern Ohio. Manufacturing jobs have continued to be important throughout much of recent decades; however, this sector has lost ground to new technologies and service industries over time. The city still depends heavily on heavy industry but now employs about 55% workers in non-manufacturing sectors including health care and education services; information technology; retail trade; food processing; transportation equipment manufacturing; and information technology support services

The first settlers to Warrensville Heights were farmers who came from Virginia in the early 1800s. They began farming around 1820 and built their homes on high ground overlooking the river. The fertile land proved to be an asset, as the town grew quickly thanks to its water supply and access to markets in nearby Cincinnati. In 1828, Warrensville Heights experienced its first boom period with the arrival of two new brothers, John and James Bicknell. They founded a mercantile company that became one of Ohio's leading businesses. The Bicknell brothers also owned several farms in neighboring towns such as Beechcroft and Price Hill before moving to Warrensville Heights proper in 1830. The growth of Warrensville Heights continued through the 1840s and 1850s, thanks in part to increased trade along the then-new Erie Canal which connected Cleveland with Cincinnati through Warrensville Heights. The canal also opened up new opportunities for business development, which led to more people moving into what is now Warrensville Heights proper. By 1860, there were over 1,000 residents living in what is now downtownWarrensburg heights census record shows that 73% of all earners lived within five miles of their job or residence - making it one of Ohio's most socio-economically diverse cities at that time! During this time period too, there was another important change taking place within the city limits: public school education became available from grade school through college level starting in 1859! This monumental development not only helped create a more diverse population but also opened up many opportunities foroutside professionals like doctors and lawyers who would later help shapeWarrensburg heights' current identity as an economic center for Greater Cincinnati!
