The Coast Guard was founded in 1915 as the United States Coast Guard Reserve. The first coast guard station was built in Warrensville Heights, Ohio, and it served as a training ground for future officers. In 1916, the Coast Guard Auxiliary was created and it functioned as a backup to the Coast Guard. The Coast Guard Station Warrensville Heights became operational on December 15, 1917. The first officer to be hired by the Coast Guard Station was William Bendix who served until 1924. In 1951, the Patrol Boat Squadron One was activated at the Coast Guard Station Warrensville Heights and it became one of the most powerful auxiliaries of the Coast Guard. Since then, patrol boats have played an important role in coastal defense operations. In 1969, Patrol Boat Squadron Fourteen were activated at the station and it became one of the most powerful auxiliaries of the Coast Guards today. One of the most memorable moments for members of both squadron happened when they successfully repelled a bandit attack that occurred on October 25th, 1968. This event is considered to be one of their greatest successes because it helped improve public confidence in their missions and helped increase donations from citizens throughout central Ohio . Today, both Squadrons continue to play an indispensable role in coastal defense operations and are still providing support to our local communities across central Ohio .

Warrensville Heights is a town in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. Warrensville Heights was platted in 1836 by General John Andrew Warren and his brothers-in-law Nicholas Warrenton and Cyrus Putnam. The village of Warrensburg was annexed to Warrensville Heights in 1857. The town's name comes from two places: "Warranty" because John A.Warren patented a land grant for $4,000 in 1836 and "Heights" because the post office at first had only one building (the first store), which became known as the "Heights Post Office". The town of Warrensburg was annexed to Warrensville Heights on December 12, 1857. In 1916, the town's water system was improved with an appropriation from the state government to create a new municipality called Whitehall Township; however, this merger did not take place until 1927 when it merged with Harrison Township to form Cuyahoga County's second municipal district. As a result of this mergers and annexations, there are now twelve municipalities within Cuyahaga County: Akron City (1994), Bay Village (1996), Berea (1998), Brownsburg (2000), Euclid Heights (2002), Franklin Park (2004), Hillsboro Village/Hillsborough Township Park District No 1(2006) , Independence Local School District #1(2008), Lawndale Local School District #2(2010) andWarrensville Heights Municipal Corporation#3(2012). The Coast Guard Museum in New York City has a collection of over 2,500 items that are related to the history of the Coast Guard. This includes items from before the Coast Guard was created in 1790, through to current day issues such as new and vintage uniforms and equipment. One of the most interesting pieces on display is a set of original coins donated by France in 1922. These coins include five types of bronze coins - écu, francs, louis d'or, rey de España and sestertio - and two copper coins - unchangeable rubies (1922) and one struck with a portrait of Admiral George Dewey (1920). Some other interesting items on display include an 1876 lifeboat launched from Staten Island; a World War II-era P-38 Lightning fighter plane; a US flagpole which has been used at Governors Ball since 1903; or an American Flag which flew over Puerto Rico during World War II. Warrensville Heights is a town in Franklin County, Ohio, United States, along the Scioto River. The population was 5,913 at the 2010 census. The name comes from a grant of land to John Warren in 1795. The first settlers in Warrensville Heights were three families who arrived in 1796: the Beavers, the Harts and the Websters. In 1807, Andrew Jackson granted a tract of land to John Warren for his services during the American Revolution. The town was founded on April 15, 1809 by Captain James Knoepfler and his family with help from other settlers. By 1830, it had developed into a small community with around 100 residents. In 1836, General Henry Harrison invaded Ohio and burned Cleveland; when he reached Franklin County he discovered that Warrensville Heights had been spared because its founder had died prior to hostilities taking place there. However, in 1840 General Harrison again raided Cleveland and burned this village as well as some others near Wintonburg on the Scioto River before moving on to attack Cincinnati. Warrensville Heights was one of many villages destroyed by General Harrison's forces throughout that year- an event which has been called "the most destructive fire ever wrought within any limits of our country." In 1845–46 President James Knoepfler purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) adjacent to what is now downtown Warrensville Heights from Nicholas Weissel for $1 million dollars then turned it over to the town for development purposes free of charge but without any right of succession or governance beholden only to him alone until such time as he should die or be incapacitated thereby creating a check against outside control or domination by those who would not have access to Knoepfler's valuable piece of real estate preservation territory located just outside city limits rich in natural resources including coal seams beneath present day downtownWarrensburgHeights after years of whispered disapproval from business people within city limits about possible annexation by nearby Broadview Hills which already boasted high quality schools and businesses large enough both geographically and economically (and whose citizens were vociferous about maintaining their independence) finally approval was given effective November 1st1850 via an act passed by both houses Of Congress known as "The Northwest Territory Act" thereby annexing broad view hills although at no cost whatsoeverto city Limits making it clear that all claims made about annexation being motivated outof envy or spite rather than anything more than pure greedon behalf ofñother membersOfCongressmanfromcitylimitswerewrong
