Warrensville Heights is a neighborhood in the city of Cleveland, Ohio. The population was 21,826 at the 2010 census. It has been said to be "the most artsy" neighborhood in Cleveland and one of the "most artistic" neighborhoods in the United States. The Warrensville Heights Arts District is located in the heart of this community and includes many galleries, museums, and theaters. The first coffee shop in Warrensville Heights opened up in 1945 on Euclid Avenue. At that time it was called Coffee House #4 and served coffee from a pot on a small stovetop. In 1956, Coffee House #5 opened up on Elm Street with an inside view of the barista making coffee while customers waited outside for their order to come out. In 1962, Coffee House #6 opened up on Clinton Avenue which became home to some of Warrensville Heights' earliest espresso machines as well as their very own art gallery featuring local artists such as Don Needham and Barbara Kruger. In 1970 Coffee House #7 opened up on Waterloo Road and soon became known as one of the most popular places to get your caffeine fix in town! In 1995, co-owner Bob Schultz sold his share of CoffeeHouseUSA LLC to Starbucks International Inc., which then merged with Dutch Bros., Incorporated (later Jamba Juice) to form Starbucks Corporation. Warrensville Heights has been home to many notable Americans, including five members of the United States Senate and nine justices on the Ohio Supreme Court. It also has several schools, churches, and other businesses that are important to the local community. The name "Warrensville Heights" comes from two early settlers who named their farmstead after General George Washington's Mount Vernon mansion in Virginia. The first settler, James Wilson Warren (1760-1825), arrived in 1795 and built a log cabin on what is now part of Main Street in present-day Warrensville Heights. He died there four years later while on vacation with his family. His wife Eleanor (née Post) followed him to this property settlement three years later and continued to live there until her death in 1808. In 1828, Andrew Mellon purchased part of Wilson's estate for $5 per acre ($120 per square mile). This land would become one of Mahoning Township's most valuable parcels when it was annexed by Warrensburg Township in 1836 as part of that township's growth following an act by the Ohio General Assembly creating Mahoning County。 In 1870–71, another annexation occurred when portions of Mahoning Township were detached from Warrensburg Township to form Uniontown Township . Warrensville Heights is a town in Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Middletown, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Warrensville Heights is located on the Scioto River between Cleveland and Akron. The settlement of Warrensville Heights began in 1824 when James Warren purchased land east of present-day Warrensville Heights from John and Judith Mellon. The town was named for James Warren's home village in Wales (now Llandovery), England. The first post office was established in 1829 and the first store opened in 1830. In 1838, the millrace that flows through present-day Warrensville Heights was dammed to form the basis for what became known as "the Shannon Rapids." In 1876, a group of farmers organized into a company to build a canal through their lands connecting Lake Erie with Akron and other townships south of Cleveland. That same year saw the opening of the first grocery store in what is now downtown Warrensville Heights. In 1908, an elementary school was built and named after banker Sidney Sargent Shriver (1868-1948). The townspeople had petitioned state officials to name it after him but were turned down because he did not live within its boundaries at that time; they instead voted to name it after President Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882-1945). On November 4, 1814, Warrensville Heights was founded by George Washington and his family. The area around present-day Warrensville Heights was part of the Northwest Territory which Virginia acquired in 1797. Washington purchased land here for $2,000 and started a small farm. In 1824, Washington donated land to the United States for military purposes in what is now downtown Cleveland. This area became known as Camp Grant after General Ulysses S. Grant's headquarters during the American Civil War.
