The Warren Naval Militia was organized on December 16, 1892. It is the oldest naval militia organization in Ohio. The first guns were fired by members of the Warren Volunteer Fire Company on December 17th at the Portsmouth Navy Yard. On January 2nd, 1893 a resolution was passed to form a navy gift history society in order to keep track of navy gifts given to other towns and cities in Greater Cleveland area. On February 3rd, 1893 an association meeting was held at the Masonic Lodge with Rev. J.W. McNeill presiding as secretary. At this meeting it was decided that the society should be called “The Warren Naval Militia” and a committee was formed to name the first ship donated by Commodore George Dewey for use in promoting school children’s fireworks displays off of Long Island Inlet during New Year's celebrations (January 1st). Warren, Ohio is a town in the Muskegon Heights area of Muskegon County, Michigan, United States. The population was 6,821 at the 2010 census. Warren is home to the Warren Central High School and the Warren-Fenton Jr./Sr. High School. The first settler in what is now Warren was George Washington Smith who arrived there in 1814 with his family from Virginia. He built a cabin on the banks of the Ottawa River. In 1827, he married Martha Jane Hardesty and they moved to what is now Muskegon Heights where they raised their six children including future U.S. President Woodrow Wilson Sr.. In 1836, George Washington Smith's brother-in-law Daniel Boone purchased 4 acres (1 hectare) of land north of present day Warren for $400 and started to build a house on it which became known as "Boone's Grove". In 1840, John Marshall donated 1 acre (0.30 hectare) east of present day Market Street to become "Marshall's Grove". In 1846, James Wickersham donated 3 acres (1 hectare) west of Market Street to become "Wickersham's Forest". William Hocking donated 2 acres (0.80 hectare) northeast ofpresent day Market Street in 1851 to become "Hocking's Hill", and also founded nearby Clinton Township in 1863 with this same donation In 1861 when Union General Ulysses S Grant invaded Michigan Territory as part of his campaign for president, he encampment at East Lansing on Shiawassee Creek near present day Clinton Township while surrounding battle lines were being drawn up between Union forces under General Robert E Lee and Confederate troops under General Nathan Bedford Forrest…During this time some residents decided that they would rather live closer to the action instead of going into hiding since they felt like they had no choice but to support their government...When word spread that General Grant was moving forward towards Detroit with his army all Expandable Ready Mules being used by him even though these animals could not carry anything more than three pounds each due To knee problems many citizens decided it would be better if they stayed put until things resolved themselves so they could get back home before things got too dangerous….After some negotiation local farmers were able to get enough food for their families even though supplies were running low so General Grant never saw any consequence from this decision other then people getting angry at each other because food was still available In 1863 when Ulysses S Grant invaded Michigan Territory as part of his campaign for president, he encampment at East Lansing on Shiawassee Creek near present day Clinton Township while surrounding battle lines were being drawn up between Union forces under General Robert E Lee and Confederate troops underGeneral Nathan Bedford Forrest… During this time some residents decided that they would rather live closer to the action instead of going into hiding since they felt like they had no choice but to support their government...
