Vermilion is a city in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 20,898 at the 2010 census. Vermilion is the second largest city in Stark County after Canton. The two cities arelinked by a single street, US-23/Merrill Avenue. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Ohio were fur traders and missionaries who traveled through what is now eastern Ohio in 1796. They named their new land "Vermilion" after a color of paint they observed on road sides in Canada and Ireland. In 1802, Vermilion was chartered as a village by Judge Jeremiah Halleck from Georgetown Township. It initially had no residents other than Captain John Trimble and his family who lived on the Scioto River above the village for a year before moving back to Georgetown Township when it was graded as part of the township boundary line with Mansfield Township (now Defiance). In 1812, General George Rogers Clark's party explored the area that would become Stark County while traveling down the Great Miami River near present day Dayton. On July 12 of that year they came upon an Indian village called Pee Dee which they destroyed because they did not believe Native Americans could build canoes large enough to carry goods upriver. After this incident, many American missionaries began working among the Indians and recorded their culture and habits which helped promote European contact with them. In 1814, Vermilion became an incorporated town when it amalgamated with several other villages throughout Stark County including Allston (1813), Delaware (1819), Ironton (1827), Monongalia (1830), New Lebanon (1832) and Uniontown (1835). At its incorporation, Vermilion had 486 inhabitants out of a total population of 1,060 in Stark County; however it would only grow slowly until 1840 when it reached 516 residents due to increased trade between America and Europe alongwith increasing immigration from Hungary during that time period. This growth was mainly due to heavy industry established by early settlers such as Farmer George Stephenson who built mills around town dump sites which produced rough cotton cloth for export via canalsideboats carrying raw materials upriver into America shippingyards onthe upper Great Miami River where finished products were processed into clothing for American consumers On September 15th 1830 three men – Ebenezer Cooks, Elijah Whitehead and Josiah Noyes – walked off their farmstead east of town center into traffic on US 23 just south of today's US 27 Bridge over state Routes 22 & 24 without any warning or provocation leading to one of history's most publicized robberies subsequent investigations revealed that all four men had been conned into coming ontoUS 23 surreptitiously under assumed names intending onlyto purchase provisions from local farmers availing themselves thereby depriving storekeepersof an opportunityto generate revenue . Although initial reports suggestedthat either robbery or excitement causedby unusualvehiclesor personswas responsibleforthisoutrageous crimelaterinvestigationsshowedthat noneofthefourmenactuallywereinvolvedintheactualrobberyandratherthattheyhad merelyprovokedavehicleor personstocausea disturbancewhich subsequently inducedtravelersalongRoutes22&24 towalkedoutsidetheirbusiness premisesunawareOfTheir intendedpurpose . Vermilion, Ohio is a town in Sandusky County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Canton-Muncie Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Vermilion was French explorer Jacques Marquette in 1692. The area that now comprises Vermilion was laid out as a village by John Stephenson in 1811 and named for the color of the soil: red. A post office was established at Vermilion in 1816 and remained in operation until 1905. In 1827, John Sutherlin donated land to build a school and church on what is now State Street. The townspeople built an Academy Building on Old Government Road near present-day Trumbull Avenue around 1830. In 1830, Samuel Morse opened his telegraph line between Cleveland and Pittsburgh and began using this road as one of its wires leading into town; Dogwood Point became known as Morseville after him. In 1836, George Washington Carver arrived in Vermilion from Cincinnati with his wife Lilla Wertz to improve conditions for settlers along the Cass Corridor (later called the Niagara Frontier). He purchased 160 acres (65 ha) northeast of present-day Vermilion for $550 ($ today). Carver did not live long enough to see his work realized; he died only two years after Purchasing land here for $550 which made it one of America's earliest agricultural settlements! He left behind foundations such as Eastern Michigan University's School of Agricultural Science and Engineering – now part of Michigan State University – while also leaving behind over 100 acre (40 ha) tract east of current day Trumbull Avenue where an agricultural research center still exists today called Western Reserve Agroforestry Center! For those reasons alone, Carver has been honored numerous times throughout history including being inducted into both the National Register of Historic Places and Ohio Heritage Hall Of Fame! rustication means "a degradation or neglect" so when you find artifacts like this one from back then we can say with certainty that this particular piece came down quickly due to Rustication/ neglect…it’s just amazing!
