Van Wert, Ohio is home to the oldest continuously operating coffee shop in the United States. The first Van Wert Coffee House opened on October 15, 1861, and was located on Main Street. The shop was later renamed the Second National Coffee House and continued operations until 1922. In 1923, the business moved to its current location on Shaker Road. The Second National Coffee House closed in 1982 but it has been reconstructed as a museum which open to the public since 1996.
Van Wert is a city in and the county seat of Van Wert County, Ohio, United States. The population was 30,521 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Van Wert County by area. The first permanent settler in what is now Van Wert was James Cook, who arrived in 1792. In 1802, David Hall purchased land from the Ottawa Indians and moved his family to what is now Van Wert from Canada. David Hall's great-grandson, John Harker Halls, founded the town of Van Wert on December 5, 1834. The town was named for James Cook's great-grandson; it had been formally proposed that communities be named for General George Washington and James Ketchum (the first president of Oregon), but no one favored this name choice because it sounded Europeanized or like a commercial venture rather than an agricultural community established by Americans. In 1835, John Harker Halls sold all his holdings to William McKinley Jr., who led Ohio into secession during the American Civil War. The war resulted in many families moving out of Ohio because they could not afford to fight; most of these people continued to live in Van Wert until after World War II when most migrated again due to economic opportunities available in postwar America. During World War II much production took place at Fort Wadsworth Army Ammunition Plant located about two miles east of town on I-77 near modern day Morehead City. This contributed greatly to increased population growth as well as development within both town limits and across I-77/I-271 junction where munitions manufacturing ceased operations following which portions of downtown were almost entirely abandoned with few exceptions being used as warehouses or retail areas today while other sections have seen significant redevelopment including new restaurants and high rise apartments tower over them along with extensive open space remaining nearly untouched once used for munitions storage only four blocks north across I-271 from downtown library complex now home to local college and medical facilities

Van Wert is a town in southwestern Ohio, United States. The population was 1,833 at the 2010 census. The Van Wert post office opened in 1828 and closed in 1974. It was located on the edge of what is now Medina County. The first settler in what is now Van Wert was Isaac Sibley. He built a cabin on the banks of the Scioto River in 1824. A year later, he moved to what is now Union Township and started a grocery business with his brother-in-law, Elias Capps. In 1830, Sibley married Susannah White. They had one child, Isaac Jr., who would also start a grocery store in Van Wert around 1830. In 1839, Johnnie Hinds bought land from Sibley and began building cabins on it for himself and his family. By 1840, Hinds had built eight cabins - four on each side of an ox cart road that led from his farm to the new town site (now Old Union Township). That same year, he organized a Methodist church and named it after his daughter Mary Jane Hinds (born about 1814). Reverend Robert Noyes officiated at its dedication ceremony. The first school in town was founded by Aaron Burr Nicholls as early as 1836; it taught loggers how to read and write using Indian tails as teaching tools. In 1840, Mr. Fenton purchased some land east of town which served as the school's campus until 1906 when it reverted back to Mr .Nicholls' property which still houses part of today's elementary school building; this property has been leased out since then to various businesses including two churches that use it for parking lots! A post office called "Van Wert" was established at this location by Jonathan Dayton in October of 1828; it remained open until January 5th1974 when it became "New Amsterdam". New Amsterdam got its name from nearby Scranton/Wilkes-Barre which had become known as "New York City" following America's admission into Confederation under President George Washington on July 4th 1776! After becoming an incorporated municipality within Medina County on February 15th1840 (the day after Van Wert), Anna Dutton ran for township trustee but lost because she didn't have 3/4ths majority required! She did win however against incumbent Drury Loydaz who only received 2/3rds majority! Anna Dutton served three terms before her death due to pneumonia on November 21st1849 aged 73 years old!
