The Coast Guard has been providing law enforcement, security and rescue services on the Ohio River since 1825. In 1903, the Coast Guard Station at Upper Arlington was established to provide relief to ships that were caught in and around the Great Lakes region. The station continued providing service until 1951 when it was moved to Portsmouth, Virginia. In 2001, the station reopened as a Coast Guard Auxiliary Station in Upper Arlington with a mission of aiding local law enforcement as well as providing day-to-day support for the community. The Auxiliary now provides assistance such as Victim Support Services, Search and Rescue Operations, Boating Safety Education Programs and More. In 2003, the Port of Cleveland opened its first port of call in Greater Cleveland on the riverfront in downtown Akron. This gave new impetus to the development of Upper Arlington on both sides of the river. The city government decided to make Lower Arlington an official harbor town and began planning for docks and a waterway adjacent to Interstate 270 which would connect Lower Arlington with Cleveland’s business district on one side and Point State Park across from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport on another side. Plans called for lifting traffic off I-270 so that boats could enter/exit Lower Arlington directly while also creating a public landing area for fishermen located just south of US 23 near Ashtabula Peninsula Wildlife Preserve. Today, Lower Arlington is home to more than 50 businesses including two large marine terminals each handling over 25 million gallons per day of cargo or passengers; four restaurants; two stores; three banks; two yacht clubs; one dog park; seven homes (four single family dwellings) and ten apartments units all used by civilians or military personnel stationed at various locations along or within walking distance of our harbortown core including Naval Base Fleming Heights outside Toledo OH., Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Base Seymour Johnson Facility east Shelby Township OH., West Military Barracks closed in 2013 after 42 years serving Camp Atterbury MI., Agate Head Lighthouse National Monument & Museum located just east from lower harbortown boundaries Offshore Patrol Vessel USS Ponce (LHA 7), HMCS Windsor

The Upper Arlington Coast Guard Station has been providing service to the community since 1922. The station was established as the Harbor District Patrol Station, and later became the Coast Guard Station Upper Arlington. In 1922, the station was renamed in honor of Rear Admiral John D. Stockton who had served as Commandant of the Coast Guard Academy from 1910-1912.
Upper Arlington is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 10,371 at the 2010 census, making it the smallest community in Ohio and one of its most densely populated towns. It is part of the Dayton–Miemont–Urbana metropolitan area. The first settler in Upper Arlington was James Caldwell, who arrived in 1798 from Virginia. He named his settlement "Alburquerque" after Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he had been born some years earlier. The town's first school was built on Alburquerque Road in 1801 by John Fenton and his family. A post office called Upper Arlington was established in 1802, and remained operational until 1865. In 1814, Daniel Boone purchased land east of present-day Upper Arlington from Adam Clayton Powell Jr., an official agent for the United States government during the Mexican-American War. Boone named his new tract "Boone's Purchase" after him and used it to expand his estate into what is now Lower Arlington Township (now Lucasville). In 1830, when Lower Arlington Township formed from parts of Logan Township, Upper Arlington became its only township with a population over 500 residents; Prior to this time all township boundaries were unofficial mouthfuls that changed with each re- Formation Census counts In 1837, American manufacturer Nathaniel Hawthorne erected a home on Spencer Place near present day Geauga Park Racetrack as part of what would become known as Hawthorne Hall Village development chain across central Dayton (). Many notable people associated with this period including author Gertrude Stein moved into nearby Hillsboro soon afterwards because they could not find suitable housing anywhere else within Dayton (). Hawthorne also donated land adjacent to Spencer Place for use as a public park which became Geauga Park today (); today's Racetrack complex occupies much of that original donation . In 1861 Crawford & Noyes opened theirracist general store at 5th and Main Street (), setting off a wave of anti-immigrant sentiment that led to riots throughout much Northeast Ohio throughout 1861/1862 . Races were routinely scheduled at various businesses near Racetrack during this time as dealers promoted horse races specifically designed to generate revenue for their establishments . After three days of violence resulting in injuries or loss of life primarily due to race riots (including one death),Overland Office Depot closed its doors permanently due to low demand for goods following the disturbances (). This demonstrated just how farrace riots had advanced by 1863

Upper Arlington was originally named for George Washington, the first U.S. President and a man of many accomplishments. The community developed around a Presbyterian church, which still operates in the area. One of Upper Arlington's most famous residents is poet and essayist James Baldwin, who was born here in 1924.
