The University Heights community is grateful for the military deployment of soldiers in recent years. The community has seen a number of different types and sizes of troops come through town, but nothing quite compares to the influx of Army Rangers in 2011. This year’s troop deployment was part of a larger military mobilization that took place across the United States. For many people in the University Heights community, this event was a moment to reflect on their local military history and what it means for our country today. Army Ranger deployments have been common in Ohio since World War II. The service has given so much to our state and its citizens, and there are still many people who can remember serving intz with distinction. In 2011, over 500 residents from throughout Warren County served as rangers during Operation Iraqi Freedom – an effort that got them closer than ever before to their homes back home. The army deployment at University Heights is unique because it comes only once every few years. It is also a reminder that we all serve together – no matter where we are stationed or what type of service we offer. No one deserves more gratitude than those who have served our country, and thank you for your courageous actions!
Army had been Deployed to different parts of the world for different reasons. However, one commonality was that they always brought gifts with them. From cookies and candy to flowers and toys, these soldiers were always willing to show appreciation for the civilians they were responsible for protecting. One recent example is the deployment of the Soldier Santa Program. This program allows Soldiers to bring personal gifts to local children in need during Christmas season. The Gifts can be anything from a toy or a new piece of clothing, to a handmade gift. It's an amazing way for Soldiers to show their support for local communities and make sure that everyone has what they need during this special time. There are many other examples where Army deployments have shown their gratitude towards civilians. For example, when troops deployed in Afghanistan brought back nearly 2,000 pounds of fresh fruit and vegetables as well as 200 gallons of milk, it showed just how much love these troops have for their countrymen. Additionally, when Army troops deployed in Iraq sent thousands of stuffed animals and shirts into Baghdad in order to improve social status among Iraqi citizens, it was clear that these troops care deeply about their community and its people.
The University Heights Volunteer Fire Department donated an engine and a firefighters' turnout to the city of Cleveland in 1923. In 1928, the volunteer department received a new engine, a truck, and other equipment from the Cleveland National Guard. In 1949, the department received another engine and truck from the Ohio National Guard. In 1959, the volunteer department received a new ambulance from Life Insurance Company of America. In 1974, The University Heights Volunteer Fire Department was merged with the Cleveland City paramedic corps to form one unified service.
University Heights is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio, located in the valleys of the Muskingum and Maumee Rivers. The population was 16,461 at the 2000 census. Oregon Trail travelers stopped here on their way to Cincinnati in 1846-47 while passing through this area. In 1892, United States Steel built a mill here and soon became one of America's leading steelmakers. The township of University Heights was organized in 1898 and named for George Washington University, which had been founded two years earlier by James Malling (1802-1880), an American statesman and congressman from Ohio who later served as United States Minister to Spain. University Heights quickly became one of Cleveland's most affluent neighborhoods, with many well-to-do families moving into its manicured streets and mansions during the early days of Cleveland's streetcar boom. Among these were Jens Jensen (b ca 1865 - dafter 1926), father of Danish immigrants Arne Jensen and his wife Karen (1912-) who chaired Cleveland City Council from 1951 until her death in 1976; Sterling Smith (1910-'94), co-founder and CEO of FirstEnergy Solutions Inc., one of America's largest independent energy producers; Edwin Drake (1923-'96), founder, CEO and chairman emeritus of Enron Corporation; Knight Ridder publisher Richard Hirschhorn (1920-'86); John Diller (b ca 1948), founder, CEO and controlling shareholder of Eli Lilly & Co.; Irving Ives (1920-'85), general manager at Wrigley Field; Maurice Sendak ('60s) author best known for The Catcher in the Rye; Edward Laski ('68) former assistant secretary at State Department under President Lyndon Johnson; David Susskind ('92) physicist laureate laureate at Trinity College Cambridge

The University Heights neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio is a historic district that was developed between the late 1800s and the early 1900s. The area includes six blocks of commercial and residential streets that are now part of the University Circle business district. The University Heights neighborhood was first settled by Germans in the 1840s. After purchasing land from the Indians, they erected a small school on what is now Bishop Street. In 1846, German-owned L&N Railway built a railroad station in this location, which served as the center for social and economic activity for many years. In 1892, Cleveland State Normal School moved to its present site at 222 East 130th Street in University Heights. This institution became one of America's leading research universities and remains one of Cleveland's most important cultural attractions today. At its peak, enrollment at Cuyahoga County Normal School numbered more than 4,000 students. Since World War II, only modestly sized buildings remain in University Heights – most notably Stokes Hall on Euclid Avenue – but it has become an integral part of Cleveland’s downtown fabric since then. Today’s businesses include two major banks (JPMorgan Chase & Co., Inc., formerly Wachovia Bank) as well as several high-end retailers including Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus%. Additionally, there are several restaurants and bars located within close proximity to central campus where students may find affordable eats or drinks during their lunch hour or after classes have ended.
