Trotwood, Ohio is an agricultural town in the United States. The population was 7,814 at the 2010 census. The name "Trotwood" is derived from a historic meaning of "a place where beans are grown." Coffee beans were grown here for centuries before being traded to Europe and then to Japan. In 1845, Trotwood became the first town in America to prohibit slavery. Coffee production began in Trotwood in 1865 by John Bickerton and continued until 1912 when it was discontinued due to economic reasons. Today, coffee continues to be produced and distributed in Trotwood through small businesses and local roasters. In 1951, Mrs. Elsie Atherton opened The Spot in downtown Toledo and continued to serve as the anchor tenant until her death in 1984. In 1974, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Eager purchased The Spot and began serving American-made coffee from their roastery located on East Market Street near downtown Toledo. They continued to operate their business until it closed its doors in 1992 after more than 50 years of service to the Toledo community. Today, the property that used to be occupied by The Spot is occupied by City Coffee Roasters which continues to serve American-made coffee from their roastery on East Market Street near downtown Toledo while also providing a variety of other services such as food truck parking and grilling access for customers who want to enjoy their cup of Joe outdoors!
Trotwood is a small town in the southern part of Ohio, located about sixty-six miles south of Cleveland. The population was 7,859 at the 2000 census. The town was founded by Revolutionary War veteran and local landowner James Trotwood in 1797. He named it for his home village of Troon in Flanders, France. Trotwood's daughter, Sarah, married George Washington and moved to Virginia after his death in 1799; her husband became the first U.S. President from Virginia. The community grew rapidly during the nineteenth century due to its location near two major railroads and its access to large amounts of natural resources such as coal and lumber. By 1870, the town had over 1,000 residents and boasted a post office, newspaper, store, brewery (later closed), schoolhouse (closed 1865), Masonic lodge (1875), church (1881), and several residences including one built by Andrew Johnson. In 1894–95 an effort was made to rename Trotwood after Samuel Trotwood III – son of James – but no success was found until 1935 when Samuel Trotwood IV donated $10,000 toward the name change campaign which resulted in a Change of Name Committee being formed with twelve members appointed by the town board with responsibility for administering and managing the change process. 1) The committee met every other weeknight from October 15th through November 14th; 2) The meeting agenda included discussingTrotwoods history since its founding; 3) Investigating any possible complaints or concerns among existing citizens about their current name; 4) Approving or rejecting all applications received during this time period; 5) After reviewing all applications received they selected four finalists who would then compete against each other in a public vote on December 6th for the honor of becoming known as "Trotwood." Samuel Trotwood IV ultimately won out over fellow finalists Arlington Heights (IL), Chicago Heights (IL), Elmhurst (NY), and Ridgewood Park (NJ). The new name officially took effect on January 1st 1936

Trotwood is a small town in Logan County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,906 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Trotwood was founded in 1814 by German settlers who named it after their village of Triton in Germany. In 1825, when the Erie Canal was completed connecting Toledo and Buffalo,Trotwood became an important transportation center for goods between the two cities. In 1865, Trotwood became home to one of the first businesses in Akron when John Denton opened a grocery store there. A woolen mill was also built here in 1868 and operated until 1916; its sawmill closed down because of competition from more efficient mills in nearby towns. The post office at Trotwood began operating on November 15, 1850, under the name "East Aurora." It changed its name to "Trotwood" on February 14, 1875; and finally to "Junction City" on May 9th of that year. The town's first mayor was James Hickey (1875-79). During World War II Trotwood served as HQ for US Army troops stationed outside of Akron while General George Smedley commanded Allied forces during Operation Overlord. On July 2nd 1944 Trotwood played host to a popular open air concert staged by Decca Records' British subsidiary Columbia Artists with American bands such as Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis performing live before an audience estimated at over 100 000 people including King George VI and Prime Minister Winston Churchill among others On December 4th 1951 local citizens organized a 'Christmas parade' which included floats decorated with ornaments from different parts of town along route 66 which led from the high school gymnasium through downtown to the county courthouse where refreshments were served
In 1812, the first settlement in Trotwood was made by John and Deborah Moreland. The Morelands were part of a group of pioneers who moved from England to what is now Trotwood Township in 1814. A year later, they had six children. In 1819, the Morelands bought 1,000 acres of land around present day Trotwood from the Whetstone family. They named their new home "Trotwood" after their home country. The Morelands laid out a town square on their land and built several houses. They sold the property to John Prentice in 1825. Prentice started building homes in Trotwood and named it "Prenticeville." He also set up a school in nearby Warsaw and built a church on Main Street in 1830. By 1840, Trotwood had a population of about 100 people. In 1850, Abraham Lincoln came to trot wood for his inauguration as President of the United States. After being elected president, he stayed at Prenticeville until his inauguration at Ford's Theatre on November 4th that year.
