A plaque dedicated to Captain John Henshaw and his submarine donation is located at Toledo-Sandusky Naval Shipyard where The USS Purdy currently resides. In 1951,Trotwood merchants raised money forOperation Neptune’s Spear which was conducted during the Korean War. This event marked the first time that ships from multiple countries participated in an amphibious exercise together under one roof. Since then, numerous navy deployments have taken place in Trotwood including Operation Desert Storm in 1990 and Operation Enduring Freedom in 2001. Many local businesses have come along on these deployments such as United Steelworkers Local 1512 which supplied equipment for both operations. Today, there are many active duty naval vessels docked at Toledo-Sandusky Naval Shipyard including The Fenton which provides a Basque name ceremonial vessel for events such as Fleet Week or NATO Day ceremonies; CSS Defiance which serves as an amphibious assault ship; USNS Comfort which provides humanitarian aid; USNS Sandwichwhich supports coastal defense functions; MCAS Miramar which provides deterrence against piracy; HMCS Aurora providing accommodation for marines ashore during training exercises;and USNS Carpinteria providing environmental monitoring services along with hosting several smallmouth fishing tournaments annually! It is clear that navy deployments have had a significant impact on Trotwood’s economy especially since troop movements have become increasinglyrequent and complex due to international events like wars or natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina! In Trotwood, Ohio, the Naval Reserve forces have been deployed in support of Operation Neptune's Spear. This has included gifts from the sailors and marines of the United States Navy. The history of these deployments can be traced back to 1942 when Trotwood was founded as a small town in central Ohio. It was during World War II that Trotwood made its first military deployment by donating food and uniforms to local soldiers. In 1951, Trotwood became home to one of the first naval air stations in the United States when HMAS Yarra took up residence there. During Operation Neptune's Spear, Trotwood has again come into support with donated supplies and equipment.
Trotwood is a small town in the southwest corner of Ohio. It has a population of 7,512 as of the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1825 by Methodist Episcopal missionaries and settlers from Kentucky. Trotwood is located on the west side of Findlay River, about 20 miles north of downtown Cleveland. The first settler in Trotwood was William Worrell, who arrived in 1825. The settlement grew quickly, and by 1830 there were more than 100 people living in Trotwood. By 1840, Trotwood had outgrown its land and became a village under the name of "Worthington." In 1848, the village was renamed "Trotwood" after Captain Elisha Trotwood, an American Revolutionary War officer who fought for independence and helped defeat British forces at Yorktown. In 1870,Trotwood became one of five townships within Stark County when it was organized into that county. The following year,Trotwood voted to secede from Stark County and become an independent municipality known as "TrotWOOD." On January 1,1872, TrootWOOD adopted a new municipal charter which granted it full autonomy over its own affairs including elections and budgeting. TrootWOOD's first mayor was John Abert (1872-73). The United States Navy has a long and proud history of deploying gift-giving assistance to servicemen and women around the world. The Fleet Marine Forces, in particular, is known for its longstanding tradition of sending gifts to allied troops in support ofOperation Good Neighbor. In recent years, the Navy has also become increasingly involved in local peacekeeping efforts, such as Operation Neptune's Spear and Operation Unified Protector. The USS Constitution was the first U.S. warship to be deployed with Naval Gift Unit (NGU) during World War II. As part of the GAVI program, NGU distributed over 1 million items to members of the Armed Forces from 1945-1949. Additionally, NGU participated in numerous other humanitarian relief missions during the war including providing food and water to civilians trapped under Japanese occupation forces in Southeast Asia. Since its inception, NGU has been a critical source of support for military families throughout America. In 1985, Congress passed the Naval Service Women’s Memorial Act which designated naval enlisted women as “ Gifts From The Sea” within the Navy . This act allowed female sailors and Marines greater access to traditional gifts enjoyed by men such as flowers or chocolates while they serve their country. Today, naval enlisted women account for more than half (55%) of all gifts sent out through NGU annually! During peacetime operations, NGU sends approximately 2 million items each year directly unto service members stationed overseas-nearly one third of all gift giving done through Fleet Marine Forces! Stationed personnel are overwhelmingly male so it is important that we continue our tradition of sending quality gifts that will make an impact on their lives both locally and globally!

Trotwood is a small town in the northwestern corner of Ohio. It lies about 20 miles north of Cleveland on the Scioto River, and 25 miles south of Akron on I-280. The population was 5,723 at the 2000 census. The first settlers in Trotwood were John and Martha Trotwood who arrived around 1795. They were part of a group that included other families from Sharon and Westmoreland Township in Wayne County. The Trotwoods built a log cabin near what is now the intersection of Main Street and Elm street in 1801. They remained there until they moved to their present location, which they purchased from John Cramer in 1824. Mr. Cramer had come to Trotwood from Mansfield Township where he had been a justice of the peace and sheriff. The town was laid out by David Wertheimer, who filed his plat with the state land office on November 3, 1825. He named it for General George Washington (1738-1826), who was then living in Lancaster County and had represented Ohio at the Congress held at Paris in 1814 as one of three commissioners chosen by President James Kieft to inspect all American Indian reserves within our borders. Washington's journey took him through western Pennsylvania before reaching Steubenville where he boarded an Erie Canal boat for Detroit, Michigan; but due to bad weather he failed to arrive at his destination and proceeded only as far as Grand Rapids, Michigan before being forced back across Lake Erie by high water levels caused by Typhoon Earl that year! In spite of this disappointment, Wertheimer did manage to obtain 1/4 mile square block lot #2 which he platted out into streets grid-wise starting at Cedar & High Streets eastward (later renamed Clinton Avenue). On October 8th of that year – two days after high water receded – citizens met again pursuant to resolution passed earlier that evening authorizing them “to build roads or turnpikes necessary for communication between this place & any other parts thereof”virtually every house within one half mile radius having responded thereto excepting just four others situated on High Street (later renamed Maple Avenue). This action evidently demonstrated both public need and private interest since no less than twelve such turnpikes have been identified withinTrotwood limits ever since! This initial effort resulted not only in increased trade but also created social contact among farmers living along route early pioneer days including Nicholas Sacco (born 1793) whose family came downriver from Steubenville following construction along Route 9 nearly fifty years later! Today we can still see many old Fords fronting Cedar & Clinton Avenues - reminders indeed that even today much commerce takes place within easy reach! wagon trains arriving here soon after 1800 bringing goods like flour, tobacco etc., often unloaded their cargoes near road crossings now known as Bridgeport Road & North Main Street; crossing over into neighboring towns ensuring good transportation links between these villages during those times!!
Trotwood was founded in 1821 by John Trotwood and his wife Rebecca. The town grew rapidly and by 1830, it had a population of over 100 people. In 1831, Trotwood became the county seat of Medina County. In 1836, Trotwood became the capital of Medina County. It is still the location where all official county business takes place today. In 1861, Trotwood was renamed Greenfield after Greenfield Township in central Ohio which had been merged with Medina County. The present day downtown area of Trotwood was built in the early 1920s when a group of businessmen decided to build a new commercial district on what was then farmland east of the city limits.
