In 1814-1815, General Ulysses S. Grant's army passed through the area on its way from Cairo to Vicksburg and stopped at Filson's house for dinner on July 12th (or July 13th) of that year. General Grant stayed there the night and then continued on his way the next day. A post office was established at Trotwood in 1827, and lasted until 1902 when it was discontinued due to railroads coming through the community more quickly than mail coaches could be delivered! In 1892-1893, a sawmill operated by David Starr Jordan built hereabouts; it ceased operations in 1895 because of lack of lumber demand from other mills throughout Northeast Ohio. However, some evidence suggests that this mill may have been destroyed or abandoned as early as 1894!

Trotwood, Ohio is a small town in central Ohio, United States. The population was 1,545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cincinnati–Middletown–Wilmington metropolitan area. Trotwood was organized as a village in 1836 and became a town in 1847. The first post office was established in Trotwood on May 7, 1837. The name of the town comes from an English place name meaning "happy valley." The village of Trotwood had three stores and one blacksmith until it closed its doors for business on December 15, 1875. A group of citizensorganized to operate a schoolhouse and store which opened on January 10, 1876. In that year also the first fire destroyed what would have been the only building in Trotwood-the frame hotel built by Joseph Cook and his brother Lewis Cook around 1800-renamed “The Grange” after Mrs. Grange who donated land for it]. A new post office was established at Trotwoodsidembroidery June 8, 1880 with Mose Humphrey as the first holder of the mail bag. When this post office closed its doors on October 2nd 1984 due to lack of customers logging onto the internet to order their mail they were replaced by US Postal Service's Main Street Post Office which still remains open today (and serves as a tourist attraction). In 1916 there were five families living within one acre of churches located southbound off High Street between Springdale Road and Indianola Road called "The Mount Olympus". This "mountain" consisted mostly of logs with no roof or flooring providing insulation from winter weather during those days when ice covered most everything except snow mobile homes parked on many blocks near our churches! All five families perished because they did not have proper winter shelter & heavy equipment could not remove all the logs so that construction crews could start building homes! (There are several reports that suggest some members may have been caught up in an avalanche while working on top). Today we can see evidence that two homes actually stood but were later demolished when roads were widened & rebuilt without taking into account possible consequences such as what happened next!)
