Trotwood is a town in Mason County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,723 at the 2010 census. The name of the town is derived from the Cherokee word "trot" meaning "to run." Trotwood was founded in 1819 by settlers from northwestern Pennsylvania who came overland through what is now West Virginia and Kentucky. The first settler in Trotwood was Daniel French. The township was formed in 1824 when it was detached from Mercer Township due to its close location to Williamstown (now Youngstown) on the Scioto River. In 1829, it became part of the new Allegheny County when it was organized out of portions of Beaver and Armstrong counties. A post office called Trotwood been established in 1821; it remained in operation until 1903. In 1915, President Woodrow Wilson visited Trotwood while he did stump speech tours across the country and suggested that America should build a national monument near Youngstown to commemorate American scout George Washington Carver who had traveled there as a boy during the Civil War years. Congress passed an act establishing Cleveland National Park on July 16, 1916; Trotwood also received land within park boundaries as part of that transaction. The original town site lay just east of modern-day Crosley Field which served as home plate for their local baseball team and also hosted other events such as fairs and festivals throughout its short life including being used for temporary housing following natural disasters such as Hurricane Andrew in 1992 which destroyed much of downtownYoungstown
The Coast Guard has been providing service to the public since 1790. As a law enforcement agency, the Coast Guard also provides emergency response during natural disasters. The Coast Guard's mission is to promote maritime safety and navigation through emergency services and education. In 1917, Congress enacted the Coast Guard Act which created five coast guard districts along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of America. These district boundaries were changed in 1926 when the National Defense Reserve Fleet was created and each district was subdivided into detachments which then reported directly to the Commandant of Marines. In 1950, the Commandant of Marine transferred authority from Admiralty Districts to Shore Patrol Districts which were in turn divided into groups or divisions that reported directly to Rear Admiral John Waddell Jr., Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Naval Forces Europe (COMUSEC). Each division had its own Headquarters with an Assistant Director who supervised subordinate commanders and units located at four major ports: Norfolk, Virginia; Portsmouth, New Hampshire; Baltimore, Maryland; and Miami Beach, Florida. Finally, in 1967 COMUSEC was moved from Norfolk to Washington D.C., creating two new Commands: COMMANDANT--U.S. Coastal Zone Command (CG ZONE) responsible for all maritime activities within 30 nautical miles of shoreline including coastal security operations; and RADIOZONE--responsible for air defense activities within 100 nautical miles of shoreline including surface search radar operations as well as antiballistic missile systems off coast The first organized patrol boat arrived on Long Island in 1855 The first commissioned vessel assigned to duty with the Coast Guard was a sloop called "HMS Liverpool" commanded by Captain George Vancouver who departed Hampton Roads on May 25th under orders from Commodore John Rodgers for duty off Cape Hatteras Islands Ashore patrols began on Long Island in 1857 when Captain James Moore increased shipping traffic around Bombay Bay so that he could intercept smugglers coming ashore On December 15th 1860 Acting Commodore Samuel Eliot Morison ordered Lieutenant Edward Winslow commanding USS Constitution ("Natchez") to take possession of HMS Albion("Plymouth") moored at East Hook Light as part of a combined American/British naval effort against smuggling on Long Island Winslow took over command of Albion afterMorison's death England responded with HMS Beagle(1861) commanded by Rear Admiral Sir Charles Fremantle USS Constitution became "HMS Nantes" while HMS Albion became HMS Dolphin(1863) during this time period

However, it has since regained some of its former prominence as a shopping destination and bedroom community for Greater Cleveland residents.
In 1812, Trotwood was a small village on the Scioto River in central Ohio. It was part of the Miami and Erie Indian Reserve. The first white settlers arrived in Trotwood in 1813. They were led by Captain John Beasley, who founded the village on a bluff above the Scioto River. Trotwood had a school and meeting house from 1815 to 1830. In 1830, it became a post office with three residents as mail carriers. The first Methodist church was built in Trotwood in 1843. In 1863, Trotwood became part of the new town of Steubenville after Steubenville split from Sandusky County. In 1865, Trotwood had 1 store and 5 families; it had 10 buildings by 1870.
