Trenton, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the seat of Mercer County. The population was 21,643 at the 2010 census, making Trenton the third-largest city in Ohio after Cleveland and Akron. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. Founded in 1814 as a village by settlers from New York City, Trenton grew to become an incorporated town in 1825. In 1907 Trenton became one of the first cities in Ohio to be granted a charter as a borough. In 1916 Trenton became an independent city when it merged with neighboring Allentown to form what is now known as Philadelphia Township. In 1940, following World War II, Trenton became home to two airfields used for training jet bombers: Whitewater Army Airfield (later Whitewater Air National Guard Base) and Beechcraft Air Force Base (later Beechcraft America Military base). During this time period there also were several factories located within or near Trenton including American Can Works which made canoes and kayaks, Alcoa Corporation which manufactured aluminum products such as wind turbines and power lines, Juglans Inc., manufacturers of jams and jellies, RCA Laboratories (now Comcast), General Motors Corporation's Procter & Gamble Company's Lever Brothers Department Stores division (P&G) and other companies such as Wernher Grunke Glasses Company; Chrysler Steamship Lines company vessels docking at both Whitewater Army Airfield and Beechcraft AFB; The Coca-Cola Bottling plant on Perry Street west of downtown; Fidelity Bankshares; Phillips 66 Refining Company Lubricants division headquarters on Mahoning Avenue south of I-71 exit 217B; Edison Electric Illuminating company plants on Clinton Avenue east of I-71 exit 219E; insurance firms Ford & Mather Insurance Companies Incorporated Headquarters building on Elmira Road north side off Hwy 169 about 10 miles northeast of Toledo I cannot stress enough how important it was for young people like myself growing up during that time to have access to quality education without breaking the bank or having our parents do all the work - especially since many jobs were not available right out of high school! For instance my brothers Bobbie John Marshall(1921-)and Rick Harrison(1924-)were both employed by GMC until they left for good due to automation back then...oh well! Anyway back onto our story today! After high school we all went into various careers but never stopped learning so we always had something new going on no matter what!

Trenton was founded by the Ohio Company in 1795. The company was chartered to build a road from Philadelphia to Cincinnati. Trenton became a town in 1802, and was named after General James Monongahela, who had led the American Revolution. In 1814, Trenton residents voted to secede from the United States and form their own country, the United States of America. The area now known as Trenton became part of the new country and its capital was moved to Washington D.C. In 1920, Trenton amalgamated with other towns in Muskingum County to become the Municipality of Trenton. The municipality went bankrupt in 1984 and was dissolved two years later.
Trenton is a city in southeastern Ohio, United States. The population was 11,551 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Delaware County and the second-largest city in that county after Columbus. The area now called Trenton was first settled by Native Americans in the late 18th century as part of the Shawnee Nation. In 1795, Princeton Professor Alexander Hamilton moved to Trenton from New York City after being offered a position at the University of Pennsylvania. From 1801 until its incorporation as a town in 1825, Trenton served as an Indian trading post on the Great Miami River. In 1830, it became one of five townships included within Mercer County; it remained so until 1907 when it became one of seventy-eight municipalities statewide that were granted self-government under Ohio Revised Code section 1311. In 1898, President William McKinley appointed John Fenton Cuyler mayor of Trenton due to his support for railroad construction through central Ohio. As mayor, Cuyler helped secure passage of the Torrence Act which created four passenger trains per day between Cleveland and Akron and made Trenton one of the few major cities with service to those two destinations. With increased railroad traffic came increased development in what had been an agricultural community; during World War I, Trenton developed into an important port for munitions shipments out of Muncie and other Midwest cities before becoming a manufacturing center during World War II with production for both Allied and Axis forces taking place here alongside heavy industry located elsewhere in central Ohio. In1965 Tishomingo native Vernon Jordan was elected Mayor; he would later become Ulysses S. Grant's Vice Presidential running mate during their campaign against James Buchanan in November 1968
