The Naval Arsenal was founded in 1795 by Captain James Wilkinson and later renamed after Commodore John D. Stockton in 1824. From 1812-1816, Commodore John A. Nichols served as Commandant of the Naval Arsenal. During that time, he developed the first torpedo boat in America and also supervised construction of two navy frigates, USS Constitution (1901) and USS Maine (1902). In 1827-1828, Commodore Amos Kendall served as Commandant at the Naval Arsenal. After serving for four years, he became acting First Lieutenant of HMS Rangoon (later HMS Cornwallis) during the Crimean War with Russia. He then became Second Lieutenant at Portsmouth from 1830 to 1835 before being promoted to First Lieutenant on 26 October 1836 and remaining there until his death on 8 February 1840. On 15 March 1840, Commander Isaac Watts succeeded him as Commandant of the Naval Arsenal. Under Commander Watts' direction, Navy Yard was opened on 11 April 1840 which functioned as one of America's primary shipyards for both warship construction and repair During World War II, Toledo played an important role in supplying ammunition to American forces fighting overseas while also creating jobs for local civilians who worked at Navy Yards throughout the war effort including production line workers nicknamed "The Guts". In 1945-1946 following World War II ended Toledo experienced a post-war boom period with many new businesses opening up such as Ford Motor Company (which built their first car here), Owens Corning Glass Works (whose products were used by Department of Defense aircraft manufacturers worldwide), Brown & Root Paperclips Inc., PPG Industries Inc., AIWA Corporation (the international armament company responsible for designing/manufacturing most all U2 designs), Janssen Pharmaceuticals Limited and many more! Toledo, Ohio is a city located in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 82,713 at the 2010 census and was estimated to be 96,902 by the 2016 estimate. It is part of the Toledo metropolitan area. Toledo is one of two cities in Lucas County (the other being Dayton). The first settlement in what is now Toledo was established about 1795 by General George Washington as part of the Treaty of Greenville between Britain and France. The town became an important military outpost on the Great Lakes region during the Napoleonic Wars, and played an important role in both Battle of Fallen Timbers (1792), Battle of Lake Erie (1813), and Battle of Perrysburg (1863). After Independence, much development took place in what would become Toledo with its early growth as a manufacturing center due to production from textiles such as cotton, boots, shoelaces, cigars, paper products and leather goods among others. In 1837–38 James K. Polk visited Toledo for his presidency and recommended that Congress create a national park adjacent to modern-day downtown Toledo for future presidents to visit – this recommendation led to creation of Presque Isle National Park along the west bank of Maumee River just east of downtown Toledo on land donated by Simon Gassett in 1855. During World War II much activity occurred within or around Youngstown Municipal Airport which served as a major bomber base during World War II; this airport also housed many aircraft manufacturer's plants including Republic Aircraft Corporation's Wright-Patterson Air Force Base which produced B-29s for America Airlines while Western Electric Manufacturing Company's Stout plant manufactured Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter planes used by second lieutenant Chester Wojakowski flying out from Youngstown Municipal Airport during Operation Neptune's Spear against Japan on September 14th 1945! Today there are few reminders remaining from these days including numerous large asphalt runways still visible although all hangar facilities have been demolished or converted into housing developments over time In recent years it has become common for smaller communities near airports across America to gain independent government status as Middletown Township did with their establishment as Southwestern Ohio Regional Council on April 19th 2017 following approval from voters via referendum; this action allows them greater autonomy within local government with some additional powers like controlling spending within their borders however they remain under federal oversight through the Department Of Homeland Security which manages immigration controls within Middletown Township limits. Today’s economy can be traced back over 100 years to several factors including clothiers such as J C Penney who opened a store here in 1901 after moving from Cincinnati followed by other retailers such as Sears Roebuck & Co., Maytag & York Appliances Inc., Montgomery Ward & Co., JCPenney’s successor Dick’s Sporting Goods Incorporated until its bankruptcy sale in 1985; industrial relics associated with shipbuilding companies such Alcoa Aluminum Co.'s Lorain Works built right next door at 419 S Broad Street before closure in 1960 followed by Bethlehem Steel Corp.'s Cardington Works built immediately adjacent across Broad Street prior to closure also Major American Metal Products' Warren Work Built Next Door at 511 N Main Street closed 1984; pork processing startups Root Beernyder Farms LLC started up here beginning operations 1977 soon followed later acquisitions Byers Frozen Foods Incorporated 1978 - today there are more than 20 retail stores operated by nearly 400 businesses operating out of Over-The-Counter convenience stores throughout central Michigan containing more than $8 billion worth merchandise annually! Many small businesses continue operate even after regional governments pass laws limiting their ability do so while larger business owners may find themselves unable or unwilling To expand beyond existing boundaries because they cannot compete with larger neighboring jurisdictions! Today’s economy relies heavily upon education both locally and statewide providing resources necessary for industry jobs throughout central Michigan while also playing an important rolein supporting research conducted at University Of Central Michigan which employs hundreds directly related thereto; overall enrollment reached 740 students enrolled full time plus 120 graduate students last fall making UCM one percent of total employment statewide but employes almost three times that number directly!!!
