The Navy’s deployments have a long and uneasy history in Tiffin, Ohio. The city has seen two Naval AirStations, one of which was closed by the military in the 1950s; and now it’s home to one of the largest naval installation complexes in the United States. The story of how this installation came to be located here is a convoluted one, but it began with an army base that was vacated after World War II. In 1949, the navy decided to build its own airbase on land adjacent to Fort Steilacoom on Lake Erie. Construction began on what would become NAS Tiffin—the first major U.S. Naval Air Station outside of Japan—on December 4, 1949. Naval Air Station Tiffin has played an important role in American maritime operations for over fifty years. It has been home to more than 350 Squadron personnel and their aircraft, including both jet-powered and propeller-driven planes. NAS Tiffin also supported Operation Neptune’s Spear (1991–1992), which was America’s response to Desert Storm; Operation Enduring Freedom (2001–2007); and Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003–2011). Today NAS Tiffin continues its role as an important hub for aviation activity in eastern Ohio; its facilities include four runways totaling 3,500 feet long and five taxiways providing access to more than seventy-five thousand acres of airspace.$1 million worth of equipment will soon be added to NAS Tiffin as part of a $4 billion program called Expeditionary Aviation Complex 2020 (EAC 2020). This project will provide new infrastructure for air traffic control systems, hangars for Boeing 737 airplanes, support areas for Marine Corps amphibious landing vehicles and other combat equipment, as well as new Hangar 1A capable of housing up to eighty-six jets.$2 million has already been spent on EAC 2020 projects alone! Today NAS Tiffin is not just a military installation but also an economic powerhouse within southeastern Ohio$5 billion worth of goods have been exported from Toledo since 2007 – making it one of America’s top commercial airports.$1 billion worth of investments are planned or underway at NAS Cleveland ($711 million) and OHMSA ($2 billion) – all designed to help fuel continued growth at these two installations while preserving their historical significance.$3 million has already been invested into renovations at both installations – ensuring that they remain open today while still serving as vital military targets

Tiffin, Ohio is a small town in Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3,876 at the 2010 census. Tiffin was founded by men named Tiffany and Tinny in 1812. The name "Tiffin" is derived from the Algonquin word "tigaun," meaning "the place where the beaver dam lies." It was originally part of Western Reserve until it became part of Ohio in 1801. The town first developed around a mill on the Zanesville-Marietta Railroad. later that year, Tiffany and Tinny built a sawmill on the same site. In 1825, they also erected a gristmill and store. By 1830, Tiffin had acquired land for school purposes and started to build churches and other public buildings. In 1835, Tiffany donated land to form what is now Muskingum County Park. In 1850, Tiffin became an incorporated village under the jurisdiction of Medina Township. In 1870, it merged with Marietta Township to form Muskingum County. The population of Tiffin peaked at 10,000 in 1920 but declined to 4,500 by 1930 due to agricultural production declines and World War II bombings which destroyed much of downtown business infrastructure; however industrial development soon resumed with aid from local businesses such as Dow Corning Glass Company who built a large glass factory on Main Street in 1951; followed by Celotex Paper Products who built their own paper mill on Phelps Avenue in 1976 which remains operational today as one of Cleveland's largest employers ( employs over 1 million people). Since 2000s there has been significant redevelopment taking place with mixed-use developments such as retail/office space mixed with some residential units; riverfront promenades have also been added including access points for water sports (such as kayaking or fishing) along both banks of the Cuyahoga River between downtown Tiffin and its suburbs acrossriver at Ashtabula Heights Industrial parks are proposed or existing locations for two new large manufacturing plants - One will produce Ford F-150 vehicles while another will produce trucks for General Motors - these plants would add nearly 2 thousand jobs directly onto current jobs within Muskingum County government service sector alone not counting indirect Jobs created through Contract Manufacturing services provided by these Plants . These plant sites are located about 5 miles southwest of downtown Tiffin off I-71 exit 219A/Bappeal Road near Houghton Lake State Park
On Sunday, November 11, 1871, Tiffin was incorporated as a village in the U.S. state of Ohio. Tiffany's first mayor was Wm. Fenton and its first council consisted of six members: four men and two women. On October 25, 1907, Tiffin voters passed a resolution to rename their village after John D. Rockefeller Jr., patriarch of the Standard Oil Company Empire who had given $5 million for the development of Tiffin Township in 1909. The vote was 5-1 with one abstainee and commissioners Jameson and Bigham voting against it because they did not want their name associated with Standard Oil Company assets or properties in that township any longer. In 1916, due to World War I efforts by America's allies which were then being funded by corporate contributions from American industry through war finance programs such as the National Defense Act (NDAA), Tiffany became an "independent" municipality within Cleveland County with its own governmental structure separate from Cleveland County government Tiffin also became home to the United States Steel Corporation at 3155 Delaware Avenue until it moved operations to Ambiorix Township in 1978 when that township acquired USSC property west of Akron on Old Erie Road south of Interstate 275
