In 1899, Flint Hills Paper Co., which had been producing paper for local banks since 1865, merged with Tiffany Manufacturing Company to form Flint Hills Paper ProductsCompany LLC ; this company discontinued production in 2000 because of consolidation among Cleveland Newspapers Incorporated into Hearst Corporation . The community experienced rapid growth after World War II until the early 21st century when there were declines associated withminority populations becoming concentrated near downtown while joblessness began increasing along with housing prices
Tiffin, Ohio is named after George Tiffin, a settler who moved to the area in 1814. The city was founded on November 10, 1837 by James K. Polk and John B. Mellon, two businessmen from Pittsburgh. Tiffin became a town on March 15, 1840 when it was organized as a borough by the legislature of Ohio under the name of "Tiffin." The first mayor of Tiffin was James P. Caldwell. On July 1, 1907, Tiffin became an unincorporated community again when it was merged into the city of Dayton.
