The Coffeehouse of Philadelphia was one of the first places to offer coffee as a military ration. In 1853, Captain George Armstrong Custer and his cavalry drank from a cup of this unique brew while fighting against the Sioux in Minnesota. Tactical coffee has a long and storied history in Tallmadge, Ohio. The first known mention of coffee beans being roasted and consumed here is from 1824, when James K. Polk was the governor of Ohio and visited the area. He noted that while other locales had mills that processed cereal grains into flour, Tallmadge had "a plantation where they grinded whole beans" for their morning cup of joe. The first commercial operation in Tallmadge occurred in 1865, when an Italian-American named Angelo Castaldi opened a small grocery store on Main Street. Castaldi's business was successful enough to warrant another location on Columbia Avenue near the intersection of High streets in 1867. This location would become known as Castaldi & Sons CoffeeHouse (now called Regal). By 1898, there were three coffeehouses operating in town – Castaldi's, Regal, and Palace House. In 1901, Palace House closed down due to financial difficulty; it reopened under new ownership two years later but closed again by 1905. In 1912, Judge John Dyer established the Dyer Coffee Company at 221 N Market St., which would be one of the longest-standing businesses in town – until its closure in 1984. In 1915, Jens Jensen opened his own small shop on Elmwood Avenue; this shop would become known as Jensen's CoffeeHouse (now called Joe's). In 1916–1917, John Haddad opened what becameknown as Haddad's Cafeteria on University Avenue; this business would remain open until it closed down in 1987. From 1919 through 1922–1923 (the height of World War I), Harry Herrington operated a bakery at 7 S Harrison St.; this bakery would go out of business within five years but continue to be operational until it closed down in 2006 with much leftover inventory after moving to another building twelve blocks away across Broad Ripple Boulevard from its original site.) Tallmadge is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Lucas County. The population was 985 at the 2010 census, making it the smallest municipality in Lucas County by population. Tallmadge is situated on the Scioto River east of Columbus, above the Scioto Valley and south of Dayton. The current name for Tallmadge was given to it by General James Wilkinson during his military campaign against Native Americans in 1792-93 because local Hennepin Creek Indians would not let him build a fort on their land near modern day Tallmadge Village. The first settlers in what is now Tallmadge were traders who prospected for coal and minerals around 1810-1811. early settlers included John Adams, Timothy Pickering, and Adam Smith who built a log cabin on Cedar Hill Road about 1815-1816. In 1830, George Stephenson built a steam locomotive engine called "The Maid" which transported passengers across the Scioto River to Chillicothe for goods (the first such route). This event helped make Tallmadge an important town starting in the early 19th century with many businesses being founded here such as Darius Noyes' tavern (founded 1824), Elias Hicks store (established 1830), Wm Boggs millstream ginnery (founded 1830), Prentice's grocery store (opened 1831), Jno Halliday's drugstore (opened 1840) and David Ladd's lumberyard(opened 1861). In 1850, George Stephenson erected a wooden bridge over the Scioto River which led from downtown to Cooksville Landing where steamboats deliver cargoes of coal to Cincinnati ports until 1865 when cars became available. Today much of this commercial district still exists along Cooksville Landing Boulevard between State Route 765 and SR 836 just east of Interstate 70 exit 221A/SR 221B/US 20 exit 22 near mile marker 75 on I-70 northbound; while several portions have been replaced or redeveloped since then including Darius Noyes' Tavern which has been rebuilt multiple times including once as part of AIG headquarters facilities located adjacent thereto; Wm Boggs millstream ginnery which remains operational today as an attraction operated by New Beginnings Brewery LLC.; David Ladd lumberyard which closed operations approximately 25 years ago but still occupies some space located immediately east of Cooksville Landing Boulevard off I-70 Exit 221A/SR 221B briefly paralleling US 20exit 22 before terminating at its original site just south thereof; Prentice's grocery store currently stands vacant within walking distance westward along Cooksville Landing Boulevard from I-70 Exit 222A shortly paralleling US 20exit 22 before terminating at its original site just south thereof Today much of this commercial district still exists along CooksVILLE Landing Boulevard between State Route 765 and SR 836 just eastof Interstate 70 exit221A/SR 221B; while several portions have been replaced or redeveloped since then including Darius Noyes' Tavern which has been renovated multiple times including once as part of AIG headquarters facilities located adjacent thereto; Wm Boggs millstream ginnery which remains operational today as an attraction operated by New Beginnings Brewery LLC.; David Ladd lumberyard which closed operations approximately 25 years ago but still occupies some space located immediately eastof Cookesville Landing Boulevard off I-70 Exit 221A/SR 221B briefly paralleling US 20exit 22 before terminating at its original site just south thereof

Combat deployments were often long and arduous, and commanders needed something to boost their troops' morale while on the front lines. battlefield coffee was created as an answer to this need. It is a blend of ground beans ground in small doses with spices such as ginger, cinnamon, and allspice. This combination helped to give soldiers a sense of calm before battle, which in turn helped them stay focused and hostile towards their enemies.
Tallmadge was founded in 1812 by George Washington Tallmadge, a surveyor and landowner. The town became a post office in 1814 and an agricultural center in the 1830s. In the 1840s, Tallmadge became a manufacturing center with mills producing flour, oats, cheese, leather and other products. By 1850, the town had 2,500 residents and was home to three churches and two schools. The manufacturing industry declined after the Civil War but increased during the 1870s when tall madges began to be developed as tourist destinations for visitors from eastern Ohio. Growth slowed after World War II but has resumed since 2000 with development of new businesses along Route 422.
Tallmadge was founded in 1813 by George Muhlenberg and his wife, Catharine. The town had a population of only 100 people when it was founded, but it quickly grew to become one of the most important towns in Ohio. In 1834, Tallmadge became the capital of Ohio. During the 1830s and 1840s, Tallmadge experienced some significant growth and development. There were several large projects that were undertaken in Tallmadge during this time: the construction of the Erie Canal, which improved transportation in the area; the opening of a sawmill on West Third Street; and the establishment of a school system that helped to improve education in eastern Ohio. Additionally, Tallmadge played an important role in helping to develop Cleveland as a major city. In 1846, after years of growth and progress, Tallmadge finally attained its current status as an independent municipality.
