Tallmadge is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 9,541 at the 2010 census, up from 8,898 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Dayton–Middletown–Springfield, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded on land that was donated by John Tallmadge in 1810. He had come to America from England with his family and settled near Springfield, Massachusetts. When he died in 1817, his estate passed to his son-in-law George Washington Harris and his nephew James Kippersie Harrisburg (1804-1892), who made it their home until their deaths in 1881 and 1893, respectively. After passage of the United States Constitution in 1789 gave Ohio citizenship to all men over 21 years old regardless of race or sex, Tallmadge's male inhabitants became citizens on December 12, 1800; women received full rights only after they married citizen men. In 1830s an exchange saw three brothers arrive from England with a shipment of logs worth $1 million dollars: Daniel Boone (1776-1837), John Marshall (1788-1846) and Adam Clayton Powell (1906-1982). They began buying land hereabouts which would become some of Tallmadge's most famous residents including Congressman Powell and first lady Eleanor Roosevelt (1914-2008). In 1839 Union troops burned down the courthouse while retreating during the American Civil War; this event helped launch what would become known as "Tallmadge Days" when locals gathered for parade and celebration around then downtown core every September 25th since then The community acquired its current name when a post office called “New Salem” opened there on October 15th 1860 under mail route PO Box 6554 et cetera.........In 1865 two local boys named George Hoadley and Elijah Craig started farming thereon...A store built by them remains standing today.....This store also served as a movie theater until 1985 when it was closed due to economic conditions......................Over time various churches were built here such as First Methodist Church (1900), Second Presbyterian Church (1901), Lutheran Church Of America - North Campus (1920) .......Today there are several businesses located Downtown including PNC Bank & Trust Company (!)(2006), Highmark Pharmacy (&(2010)), Chamber Of Commerce building (&(2011)), Post Office Building (&(2013)).......

Tallmadge, Ohio is a small town located in the northeastern corner of Ohio. The population was 7,541 at the 2000 census and 9,871 at the 2010 census. It lies just outside of Dayton, the state capital. The area that now Tallmadge was part of what is now Xenia and Union Township on the west side of the Scioto River. In 1811, it was renamed to its present name after Daniel Tallmadge, an early settler in this area. Tallmadge’s first post office was established in 1824. The community began to grow rapidly after railroads arrived in this area during the late 1800s. By 1870, it had become one of Dayton’s largest residents with a population size of over 10,000 people. In 1907, Tallmadge became an city and soon developed into one of Ohio’s leading commercial and industrial centers. In 1941, during World War II, Tallmadge played a significant role in helping shortagesof munitions be met by supplying food for military purposes throughout central Ohio. When hostilities ended two years later, many businesses closed or shifted their operations elsewhere due to economic conditions following the war's end. However, many remain intact today as part of downtown Dayton's business district which has seen growth since then including several new restaurants and bars opened over the last few years alone! It wasn't until 1978 when Community Development District 5 (CAD 5) was created out of areas annexed from other towns within CAD 5 that much progress began to be made towards redeveloping older buildings and removing obstructions to street grid layout that had kept them vacant for decades - these days most residents are active participants in Downtown Dayton's redevelopment process! In recent years there have also been efforts made to increase retail opportunities by incorporating upper-income housing into some parts of Downtown while continuing efforts to attract more professional retailers such as Sears Canada which moved its headquarters from Hoffman Estates IL in 2011 – marking yet another example illustrating how development can take various forms depending on local needs!
