Tallmadge, Ohio is a town in Summit County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,552 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that became Tallmadge was first settled by Iter and his family in 1813 when he and his wife, Nancy (née Dunham), moved from Connecticut to what is now Summit County. They named their farm "Tallmadge" after John Tallmadge, an early settler in the area. In 1837, Samuel Morse built a sawmill on the tiny stream called Tuscarora Creek and later bought land around it for a community known as "Morseville". The name change came about because of objections from residents of nearby towns who claimed that they had been given the same name as a place in Vermont. In 1868, engineers surveyed an improved road system for Summit County and proposed naming it after George Washington; however, no one wanted to take the risk of being laughed off by fellow Americans. So they changed it to "Tallmadge", which stuck until 1963 when voters approved moving the villagehall from Morseville to its current location on Route 219. Thereafter Tallmadge became an official town with its own government and police force! Today's economy relies heavily on manufacturing: accounting software products are among those made here; aircraft parts make up a significant portion of annual exports; steelmaking is also common; and agricultural products include apples, grapes, potatoes and corn

Tallmadge, Ohio is a town in and the county seat of Perry County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,605 at the 2010 census. Tallmadge is part of the Dayton–Middletown–Daytona metropolitan statistical area. Tallmadge was founded in 1814 by Capt. Isaac Chauncey and his family as a small trading post on the Scioto River. The first settler in what is now Tallmadge was James Dunlap. In 1827, Captain Chauncey's son-in-law, John Crampton, built a log cabin on the present site of Tallmadge Village after travelling from Cincinnati to find land there for his father-in-law and kin. He named the settlement after General Andrew Jackson while he served as military governor of Georgia during the Indian Wars (1812-1813). In 1837, John Auld bought 8 acres (3 ha) of land northeast of Tallmadge village from George Stephenson for $2 per acre ($40 per ha). He built a gristmill there that became one of Ohio's leading wheat mills. The village name changed to Tallmadge in 1851 when it became part of Perry County; it reverted to its original name in 1907 when it was made part of Warren County. In 1916, Pershing Drive was created as an east/west street linking downtown with rural areas along both banks of the Scioto River; this road remains operational today as called "Pershing Boulevard". In 1928, Hallelujah Springs Resort opened on parkland just east of town limits; this resort continues to operate today as "Hallelujah Springs". On November 24th 1865 Union general staff officer Samuel Jourdan arrived at Tallmadge Village with 1 cavalry regiment under lieutenant colonel Augustus De Witt Cooke for an inspection tour before their departure for Fort Loudon southward across country to suppress Confederate forces near Lynchburg Junction; they were not met with hostile reception but did see some interesting architecture including two large brick buildings still standing at 5th & Elm Streets which were used by local school board members until recently when they were condemned as being too old and not habitable according to current zoning laws note: these historically significant buildings are currently occupied by adjacent businesses entities known collectively as "The Brick House", although their exact identity or ownership status is unknown due to their ambiguous legal situation
