The society also donated two sets of ivory carvings depictingMS James Kempton and her crew as they sailed through the Panama Canal in 1914-15—the first time that such a display had been made public in America. In 1954, Mrs. Ollie West bestowed upon the town of Tallmadge an 8-foot fiberglass model of HMS Beagle—the only historical replica ever created at that size and type by anyone in America or abroad. Tallmadge, Ohio is a small town in the heart of the Great Lakes region. The population was 5,813 at the 2010 census. It lies on the border of Hardin and Noble counties. The name Tallmadge comes from two words: tall (a high mountain peak) and madge (a type of raspberry). The first settler in what is now Tallmadge was John Madigan in 1812. He built a cabin on a hilltop near present-day Union High School. A post office called Madiganville was established in 1820, but it didn't take off until 1827 when Elijah Hodge opened a store there. In 1830, Methodist missionaries came to Tallmadge and started preaching here. They started a school and preached about baptism for all people. In 1840, an unsuccessful attempt was made to build a bridge over the Shiawassee River nearby which would have connected Hardin County with Noble County; this area is now part of Union Township. In 1846, Isaac Niles platted what is now Tallmadge Village on land he had purchased from Jabez Wheelock Jr., one of the original settlers in Hardin County; it became part of Union Township after Niles' death in 1848 In 1850, Wm Sibley founded Clearwater Mills here; he operated it until his death in 1865 In 1861, three men – Hiram Chilton (of Chilton & Company), Samuel Fenton (of Fenton & Co.) – built and installed the first electric lighting system west of Pittsburgh in central Ohio In 1865, George Prentice erected the first cotton gin west of Cincinnati On July 1, 1870, Union Township merged withNoble County to form today's Hardin County . On that date also were laid out four new townships – Athens Township (1871), Cass City Township (1872), Harper Heights Township (1873) and Park Ridge Township (1874). These townships later became constituent areas within Hardin County . After much discussion among commissioners about whether or not to incorporate as villages or townships due to lack of available square footage for buildings within their boundaries - especially since many residents wanted to remain close to their homes - it was decided that only Athens township should be incorporation into a village status because its square footage would have been more than enough for such an effort . As soon as Athens township incorporated as an officialvillage under state law on May 25th 1886 by order of Govt.(George Mifflin) ,the population increased so rapidly that they could not keep up with building permits so many new structures were constructed without any planning or design - including churches! This resulted in some stability issues during those early years before everything began spiraling out wrong….

Tallmadge is a town in Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,048 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Tallmadge was John Copley in 1792. A post office was established at Tallmadge in 1815, and the name was changed to Muskingum in 1819. The town developed around mills that were built along the Muskingum River by early settlers. The first mill was built on Third Street in Tallmadge by Nicholas Dutton in 1824. By 1830, there were eleven mills operating in Tallmadge. In 1831, Henry Ford founded a foundry here and began making cars with metal plates made from iron ore mined near his home town of Auburn Hills, Michigan. When mass production of cars became possible and demand increased for them in America, Ford moved his plant to Dearborn Heights, Michigan after building a new mill there in 1938–39. In 1922–23, when General Motors announced plans to expand its operations into southern Ohio and build a new car plant here—the largest ever constructed outside of Detroit—a group of local businessmen formed the Local 890 Metalcasting & Foundry Association to oppose GM's plan because they felt it would Crush their small-town business model;[1] however, GM ultimately agreed to build the plant on what is now Route 66 south of town instead (and this later led to problems with environmentalism).[2] In 1957–58,[3] when Interstate 71 bypassed Tallmadge and went through downtown Dayton (thus splitting Dayton into two parts), many residents decided to move away or leave during what had been called "the Great Merger". At that time there were only 2 villages within Muskingum County: North Canton and South Canton; both had over 1,000 people living within them while Tallmadge had just 509 residents including its school board member.[4][5] Many stores closed up as people left for better opportunities elsewhere; many homes also were sold off during this time period as buyers could no longer afford property values given how much money had been lost from businesses closing down across America due to interstate travel arteries being created.[6][7][8] However other businesses such as an auto shop (later closed) and several grocery stores (which survive today) kept pace with changes taking place outside of their original boundaries even though they may have smaller populations inside their buildings today due to zoning laws having not kept up with modern technology advancements like cell phone service which has dramatically shrunken schools' budgets Ever since then despite all these challenges some old timers continue giving tours/classes on local history subjects every week leading up tto National History Day celebrated annually on May 9th
Tallmadge became a part of the United States of America on July 4, 1776. The town was named in honor of General George Washington and his army's march through the area on their way to victory over the British at Saratoga.
