The United States Army has a rich history in Tallmadge, Ohio. The first military unit to be stationed in the city was the 2nd Ohio Infantry Regiment, which arrived in 1812. In 1861, when Ohio became a state, the 1st Brigade, 3rd Division of the Union army was activated and quartered at Keystone Park. In 1865, when General Ulysses S. Grant took command of United States forces in the western theater of war, he ordered his brigadier general to lead an expedition into central Ohio to capture Fort Cassius. General John A. Logan led this force and on July 10th captured the fort after a hard fought battle that lasted for two days. The fort served as a base of operations for Confederate forces during the Battle of Perryville and other campaigns in central Ohio. In 1868, when Cincinnati became an independent city under control of the Ulysses S. Grant administration, General George Halleck moved his headquarters from Columbus to Cincinnati and placed his brigade headquarters at what is now Goodrich Park on Elm Street near Fairview Avenue. This location would become home to several future American Military Bases including Fort Knox (later known as Fort Monmouth) and Camp Humphreys (now Fairchild Air Force Base). In 1898-1901 Genuine Purdey’s bicycle store located at 26th and Vine Streets hosted daily races between cavalry units from Buffalo Soldiers up through World War I until it was destroyed by fire on January 11th 1915; only four months after it opened its doors! Many soldiers who were stationed here while serving their country gained lasting friendships with local civilians such as Mrs. John Ransom who ran her boarding house next door from 1905-1945; or Mrs. Harry Whelan who operated her grocery store across Elm Street from Goodrich Park until her death on May 20th 2006 aged 96 years old! Tallmadge, Ohio is a city in Lorain County, Ohio, United States. The population was 14,591 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lorain County and lies on the southern edge of Cleveland County. The city is bordered by Cleveland to the north, Lake Erie to the east, and Summit Hill to the south. The area now known as Tallmadge was first populated by Algonquian-speaking Native Americans who called it "Taltochee" or "the land between two rivers." The first permanent European settler in what is now Tallmadge Township was John Forbes in 1792. He arrived from Scotland with his family and built a house on Cedar Point Lighthouse Key West which he named Forbes City after himself and his wife's maiden name. In 1812, James Kapp bought section 8 of present-day Tallmadge Township from John Forbes for $1,000. Kapp renamed it Kapptown after himself and founded a town Klingleburg (German: "Klingleberg") near what is now downtown Akron on Muskegon Creek where he lived until his death in 1847. In 1814 Samuel Sloan purchased one hundred acres (40 hectares) of land along Muskegon Creek downstream from Klingleberg for $5 per acre (2 hectares). Sloan developed what are today Kirkland Heights and Zieglerville areas as part of his milling operations which were very successful at this time because there were no other mills in that area apart from those established by Indians such as the Miami tribe around Lake Erie. In 1826 John Prentice became interested in developing this area into a town but died before anything could be done about it because he had no money to invest. His son Jabez Prentice took over development but died suddenly in 1827 without any children to take over development so Jabez's widow sold her share back to Prentice's father for $10 per acre ($4 per hectare). She then transferred all rights including mills, residences, roads and other privileges back to Jabez when he married her daughter Sarah years later A referendum was held on November 3rd , 1840 to decide whether or notto incorporate as a village within Cuyahoga county; however due to high costs associated with incorporation many residents opted instead for incorporation into new Sandusky township located just west of Akron on Sawmill creek although some residents still call themselves "Tallmadge people". A year later another referendum resulted in incorporation into Cuyahoga county having an enrollment of 10 females only out of a total population of 20 thousand due primarily to high cost associated with raising taxes even further while also struggling with water shortages caused by Forest Preserve policies implemented during Andrew Jackson's presidency which limited logging near cities etc.........In 1850 prospered Grafton Flour Mill located 1/2 mile east sideof center road & 2 miles south sideof river running through Village formed Grafton Mills Co., largest flour company west OF Cincinnati...In 1865 major fire destroyed entire Village & burned all buildings except church--this event has been memorialized annually since [it occurred] This important social history takes place every November 3rd when communities throughout Northeast Ohio join together commemorate their past through firesIDEAS: - rename existing community 'Tallmadge' after historical figure or local landmark rather than simply 'village' - erect statue or plaque commemoratingresses events leading upto fire - allow open public visitation during festival week

Tallmadge is a small town in the northwestern corner of Ohio, just west of Cincinnati. The population was 7,684 at the 2010 census. It is one of the most heavily populated towns in Northwest Ohio, and it has been home to many businesses and families for over 120 years. Businesses grew quickly to support the growth, and by 1870 there were more than 20 stores and five churches in town. That same year saw the first use of electric lights in town – they had been installed in part because tall buildings across the river made it difficult to see at night. Today, Tallmadge is still known for its fine architecture – some of which date back to before incorporation days! Some notable examples include: The Masonic Temple (1898), The First Baptist Church (1899), The Second Baptist Church (1904), and The Third Methodist Church (1971). In addition to its architecture, Tallmadge also boasts many interesting history items including: A clocktower built by George Stephenson; a locomotive shed from 1909; a blacksmith shop dating back to 1881; and much more!

It was named for General James Tallmadge, who played a significant role in the American Revolutionary War. The first store opened in 1812. The town grew rapidly during the 1830s and 1840s, thanks to its natural resources and its location at the junction of two important transportation routes. In 1846, Tallmadge became one of the six townships that formed Fairfield County. Growth and development during the late 19th century slowed as new technologies replaced traditional agriculture and manufacturing. However, growth resumed in the early 20th century after World War I brought increased commercial opportunities and population growth. During World War II, Tallmadge produced army vehicles and other military equipment; however, it also lost many jobs due to wartime production restrictions. Today, Tallmadge is an economic center with a strong industrial base that remains a major part of local life.
