Struthers, Ohio is a small town in the northeast corner of the state of Ohio. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Middletown, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European settlers in Struthers were James and Nancy Struthers who arrived in 1786. They fished and hunted for food in their area until they found a salt lick that would provide them with salt to make their own bread. The Struthers built their first home on what is now High Street in 1802. In 1813, they bought land from William Allred for $100 cash and began to build a new house on it. They named their house after themselves, James Struther and Nancy Allred Struther. In 1825, Nancy married John Pickering and together they raised two children: Mary Pickering (1827-1920) and John Pickering Jr. (1829-1912). After Mary's death in 1920, John Sr.'s estate was inherited by his son John Jr., who moved to Struthers and ran an ice cream parlor there until his death in 1972. In 1984, the old struther house became property of the Cleveland Foundation which used it as headquarters while refurbishing other buildings on Euclid Avenue within Cleveland's city limits into one large complex known as "The CityCenter". Today,struther has a population of around 10 people living primarily inside its original structure including its church which still holds services every weekdays since 1870; its library which opened in 1924; its post office which opened on October 15th 1907; and its restaurant/cafeteria run by Mrs. Stover called "Papa Johann's".
