In 1868 Samuel Sloan bought the Silliman mill fromDavid Silliman and changed its name to Sloan's Mills Incorporated. In 1916 the company became part of Bethlehem Steel Corporation and continues to be headquartered in Struthers today with over 100 employees.

Struthers, Ohio is a small town in the southwestern corner of Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,026 at the 2010 census. It lies on the border of Geauga and Trumbull counties. The first settlers in Struthers were Nicholas Struthers and his son John who arrived in 1795 from Connecticut. They operated a ferry service across the Scioto River to get goods to their farmstead on present day Holmes Road. In 1814 Nicholas' grandson Byers married Sarah Holcombe and they started a grocery store on what is now Third Street near Main Street which stood until 1908 when it burned down. In 1835 Drury built a schoolhouse on what is now South Third Street which served as the town's high school for many years before being replaced by Struthers High School in 1957. In 1859 John Goudreau bought land including part of present day North Main Street from Nicholas Struther for $1,000 and laid out a new village called "Struthers". He added an upper story to his house and named it after himself, naming all of the streets after him including North Main street which still stands today (though renamed Rte 157). The original strutterersaugusta Hotel still stands across from Oldstrutters golf course off US 50/Rte 158 just north of downtown. On December 12th 1907 members of the local post office committee founded the first ZIP code in Stark County - 46901 - with Mr. Goudreau as its first president The early 1900s were tough times forSTRUTHERS because American industry was moving away from Cleveland preferring instead to build factories outside Ohio. However with prohibition becoming law in 1919 STRUTHERS had to find ways to keep theirillegal alcohol sales going despite government crackdowns Some residents decided that they should open a bar themselves so they started Braker's Bar & Grill located at 511 N First St between 1920-1925 followed by Bluewater Tavern at 619 N Second St between 1925-1930 then The Diner at 711 S First St between 1930-1941 Finally there was The Cafe located at 905 W First St which opened in 1941 This cafe closed circa 1990 however it reopened as "Café de la Renaissance" later that year
