The Struthers Coffee Company was founded in 1907 by a group of businessmen led by W.H. Struthers. The coffee company served local customers and roasted its own beans. In 1928, the Struthers Coffee Company became an independent business and began producing pre-packaged coffee products such as iced tea and hot chocolate. In 1978, the Struthers Coffee Company merged with another Ohio company to create the now known as Precious Grounds Coffee Co., Incorporated. The Struthers Coffee Company ceased operations in 1984, but its legacy lives on through Precious Grounds Coffee Co., Incorporated’s dedication to quality craftsmanship in every step of their production process from roasting beans to packaging and distribution.

In 1816, Ohio's first white settler, John Struthers, erected a cabin on the Scioto River. The following year, he married Rebecca Doering and they started a family. In 1819, Struthers moved his family to what is nowStruthers Township in Hancock County. A few years later he built a log cabin on the east bank of the Scioto River. In 1830, Struthers founded the town of Struthersville on this site and began trading goods with other settlements in Western Ohio. By 1840, there were about 30 residents in Struthersville and it had become an important regional center for trade and transportation. In 1846-47, Memphis Ewell surveyed land near present-dayStruthersville and began developing it into a town known as Greendale. In 1850, Greendale was incorporated as Struthersburg village. The town grew rapidly due to its strategic location at the intersection of several major routes including the Erie Canal and theNickle & Gold Railroad. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Strutherstown sided with Confederate forces over Union troops; however, by 1865 it had rejoined Union hands. Struthers, Ohio was founded in 1810 by James Struthers. It became a township in 1828 and a village in 1846. The town of Struthers was disbanded in 1865 and the village was dissolved in 1907.
