The United States Air Force has a long and proud history in Struthers, Ohio. The first planes that flew in Struthers were the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt fighters of the Second World War. The USAF presence in Struthers was formalized with the establishment offueled fighter aircraft production plants at Wright-Patterson AFB and Grumman Aircraft Corp. In 1957, the USAF moved its Headquarters from Dayton toStruthers, establishing an entity that would become known asthe Air Force Systems Command (AFCS). AFCS is responsible for air force programs across all domains including research, development, testing and fielding; however, its primary focus remains on military operations and nuclear deterrence. Air Force gifts have been a important part of Struthers’ history. From donations of war surplus equipment to making grants to local schools and organizations, AFB gifts have helped make Struthers one of America’s most welcoming communities for servicemen and women. The U.S.Army also had a significant presence in town during the Cold War era with headquarters located at Wright Patterson AFB until it was closed down in 1991. Today there are numerous military installations throughout central Ohio which contribute to AFCS’ mission – each helping support DOD missions while providing unique opportunities for community engagement

The Struthers Air Force Base gift history began in the early 1940s when the United StatesAAF Training Command stationed a bomber squadron at Struthers. The squadron was known as the "Struthers Boys." In 1945, the Air Force converted to jet aircraft and moved the training squadron to Seymour Johnson AFB, NC. The "Struthers Boys" were merged with the "Hershey Park Boys" and became known as the "OhioAir National Guard." In 1957, Struthers AFB became operational as an operational USAF base. Over time, gifts have been given to various branches of service at Struthers AFB including both airmen and civilians.
Struthers, Ohio is a small town in the Northwest corner of Ohio. It was founded in 1811 by General Anthony Wayne and his wife, Rachel. The original name for the town was Tredegar. In 1821, the name was changed to Struthers after incumbent Congressman John Struthers who served from that year until his death in 1827. In 1853, the town became a part of the new United States. The post office operated until 1907. Today, Struthers remains an agricultural community with a population of about 350 people as of 2019. The economy of Struthers is based on agriculture and services such as marketing and transportation. The town has two grocery stores and one hardware store. There are also three churches located in the community: First Baptist Church, Second Methodist Church, and Trinity Lutheran Church. In addition to its agricultural base, Struthers has been home to several businesses over the years that have either grown or continued operations since their founding: started by General Anthony Wayne himself such as Aiken's Ford (now defunct) which became an auto dealership; Mid-Ohio Weighing House which operated until 1975; J & G Dairies which continues to operate today as a pet supply store; Barry's Chevrolet for many years before it closed down in 2016;and last but not least P&G's manufacturing plant which manufactured diapers there from 1957-2002 before being replaced by Lululemon Athletica Ltd.'s current facility there in 2018
In the early days of the United States airforce, gift giving was not a common practice. Gifts were given in kind such as food or clothing to military members. However, over time, the air force has become one of the most powerful and arsenals in the world with its own unique culture and history. The first US Air Force fighter squadron was activated on November 14th 1941 at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska. The squadron was made up of P-47 Thunderbolts and they were used for aerial reconnaissance and combat bombing during World War II. In 1944, an additional P-51 Mustang squadron was activated at Offutt AFB in Nebraska. These two squadrons were used for strategic bombing raids against German targets in Europe as part of Operation Overlord. In 1947, an F-84E/F Super Sabre fighter squadron was activated at Fort Worth AFB Texas which became operational during 1948 under command of Tactical Air Command (TAC). In 1951, another F-84E/F Super Sabre squadron was activated at Shaw AFB CA under command of Eighth Air Force (8 AF) which became operational during 1952 under command of First Lt USAF John Agerter Jr.. During the Korean War both these Squadrons flew Boeing jet fighters off carriers USS Formosa (CVN 71) and USS McCowan (CVN 78). On April 26th 1953 8 AF released its last Boeing jet fighter when it lost control while flying above Japan after takeoff from Okinawa AB; all five pilots ejected safely but their aircraft crashed into mountains killing all six occupants including mission commander Colonel USAF Curtis LeMay Jr.. This is also considered to be the first successful suicide mission by an American aviator! The last USAAF F-84E/Fs operated out of McGuire AFB NJ in 1957. 1972 saw another change when Republic Aviation Corporation assumed control over USAF Aircraftproduction then began producing Lockheed Martin F-104 Starfighters known as “Dove” models They would remain serviceable until 1981 when they were replaced by Northrop Grumman MQM2C Hornets starting with model 98A1Ns later changed to MQM2CJs however these continued being produced until 1993! From 1965 to 1970 McDonnell Douglas provided three OVNI interceptor squadrons called AGM-114 Hellfire missiles for use against North Vietnam however these missions did not result in any kills because atmospheric conditions prevented them from reaching target areas! All three squadrons returned home without any kill results! The last shot fired by a McDonnell Douglas OC3A Raven took place on October 15th 1976 when it intercepted a Vietnamese MiG Alley pilot trying to fly over Ubon Rang AB!!! It is interesting to note that this particular aircraft had been converted into an attack vehicle using modifications made by McDonnell Douglas….. This paper will only cover gift giving within the context within United States Forces Korea since Gift giving outside United States Forces Korea is rarer still even though gifts have been given throughout much of Asia including Japan where United States forces are stationed!

It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area and the Greater Cleveland region. The first permanent settler in what is now Struthers was George Wilkinson in 1796.
