As the largest town in Strongsville, Ohio and home to the nationally known Strongsville Coffee Company, it’s no surprise that coffee has been a part of the town’s history for years. In 1868, John A. Denny founded what would become the Strongsville Coffee Company after purchasing a small farm near present-day Strongsville. The company became one of the most successful in America and exported its coffee all over the world. The first cafe on Third Street opened in 1877 and was operated by Mr. & Mrs. Fenton. By 1902, when strong coffee became an important crop in America, two businesses had taken up space on Third Street: The American Coffee House (now called Joe's) and The Gilded Cage (now called Starbucks). Between 1902-1907, both businesses were operated by Caleb Saunders who also ran another business – The Daily News – which opened in 1907 on Second Avenue across from Denny's store. In 1912, George Peake bought theDaily News building and moved it to Fourth Avenue where he ran it as ThePeake Building until his death in 1966. Strongsville, Ohio is a city in Summit County, Ohio, United States. The population was 27,605 at the 2010 census. The city is part of the Akron-Canton-Muncie Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located on the southern edge of Summit County and bordered by I-75 to the north and east, US Route 422 to the south and west, and OH Route 54 to the northwest. The first Europeans to explore Strongsville were French traders from Quebec in 1688 who named it "New France" after their discovery of a rich fur trade in that area. In 1803, John Cockerill founded an agricultural society here which became known as Strongvilles Agricultural Society & Loan Company. On July 6th of that year, residents voted to incorporate as a town under the name "Strongsville". The first mayor was James Fenton with George Wickersham serving as his secretary. In 1836 Strongsville joined with other towns in Summit County in forming the new county of Summit because its boundaries did not follow those of present-day Akron or Canton. However, due to increasing population growth within Summit County, Strongsville again sought annexation into Canton Township on January 1st 1938 but this time failed when township officials refused to give up land they had acquired for public use since before amalgamation between Akron and Canton Township (the only two townships within Summit County). A referendum held on November 3rd of that year asked residents if they wanted annexation into either Canton Township or Akron; however only 50% opted for annexation into Akron while only 40% opted for annexation into Canton Township due largely to concerns over job security should strongtown become part of Canton instead of continuing as an independent town protecting its own identity separate from both municipalities. So on December 3rd originalstrongsvilles incorporation papers were filed with both cities providing equal resources for government operations; however during construction work done on behalf of both cities during 2007–2008 it was discovered that nearly all road signs spelling "Canton" were replaced with those spelled "Aurora" which confused many people unfamiliar with Strongsville's history since Aurora had been annexed by Akron prior to merger! As a result efforts are currently underway by Mayor Dan Dunn (a former strongsville resident) and City Councilmember Rick Sacco (a long time resident)to restore all old signage including street names/ distances etc., so that Aurora can finally become proud once again her sister town! historic attractions: • downtown strongsburg - built around 1830 architecture includes several fine buildings including Stroud House which served as home until 1835 when it burned down; also notable are pioneer store fronts such as Second National Bank building (1795), Mechanics Men’s Store (1835), Armoury Exchange Building (1868), Masonic Temple/Hall (1902), First Presbyterian Church/Old Synagogue (1899) • aurora - originally an unincorporated community adjacent to strongsburg alongrichland exit off I-75 near modern day fairgrounds; later renamed after aurora municipality when it merged with canton in 1938 • aurora high school - now one of four high schools inAkron–Canton–Muncie metropolitan statistical areaserving students from central akron areas including shaker Heights and parts ol cleveland
