Strongsville is a city inuyasha of Strong County, Ohio, United States. The population was 11,827 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Strong County and was founded by farmers in 1837. In 1901, the city consolidated with neighboring Hoytstown to form a new municipality; Hoytstown ceased to exist as an incorporated community in 1974. The history of Strongsville began with farming families who arrived in the area around 1800. By 1850, some 800 people lived here near what is now downtown. A canal opened up through that year and jobs became available for those who located along its path: farmers and their workers built bridges and erected dams across the canal for shipping purposes; commercial interests built stores and factories on Main Street and other streets leading into town; soldiers barracks were constructed nearby to house servicemen during World War II (the city did not become one of America's war-time capitals until 1949). In 1837, members of a farming family named McLaughlin bought land east of town from Nicholas Biddle. They started a small farmstead called "McLaughlin's Branch" which soon became strong enough to support itself operation by itself. In 1840 they married Catharine (Katharine) Browning, sister of John Browning*, who had settled in this area about two years earlier* (*John Browning was born October 25th, 1795 near Covington IN., died December 6th 1847 at 71 years old). The Brownsings operated a small grocery store on Center Street which continued to be open until about 1910 when it burned down due to a power outage caused by lightning*. The first post office opened in Strongsville on November 15th 1830.* (*The first post office was discontinued on January 1st 1860.) In 1851–1852 five settlers--Edwin Mclaughlin (from Philadelphia), Wm Haggerty (from Portsmouth NH.), Absalom Allyn (from Lexington KY.), James Fenton* (*James Fenton came from Elizabethtown KY.), Solomon Starkey*(*Solomon Starkey came from Tinicum Falls NY*) – traveled overland from Lancaster Co., PA via Youngstown OH & Cleveland OH en route to start what would eventually become known as "the Great Western Railroad". When they reached Strongsville they found only three homes completed – one block south of where Main Street met US 21 today – so they encamped themselves overnight between First & Second Streets on Church Hill Road before moving forward next day when construction began upon their seen *. They laid tracks northward through what is now downtown Strongsville & established their depot thereon Jan 3rd 1853*. This railroad helped turn Weaksville into an important center for commerce & transportation within our stateline*. Today you can still see evidence left behind by these pioneers such as numerous stone blocks still standing just northwest corner 2nd St/Main St *A recent survey has shown that most if not all these blocks have been destroyed over time!
The town of Strongsville was founded in 1824 by General Samuel D. Strong and his wife, Elizabeth. The town was named for him and his brother-in-law, Edward M. In 1830, a sawmill was built in the town and until 1859 it produced lumber for local buildings and furniture. However, with the advent ofrailroads in Ohio in the 1840s, strongsville's primary economic activity shifted to manufacturing products such asboats, machinery, textiles and other goods. By 1860, however, mills were closed down due to competition from new mills that had been built south of Cincinnati on the Ohio River. After decades of decline in business at these two businesses combined - until 1990 when they were sold to a private equity firm - strongsville is now an agricultural community with some small businesses remaining active throughout most of each day
