Streetsboro, Ohio is a town in Lorain County, Ohio, United States. The population was 16,682 at the 2010 census. The name of Streetsboro comes from the English word "streets" which are public thoroughfares. Streetsboro was founded in 1814 by Captain John Hennepin and his family as a mill village on the Scioto River. In 1827, Streetsboro became an incorporated town under the State of Ohio Constitution. The first postmaster was James Dimmick and the first treasurer was Ebenezer Eaton. Streetsboro's first school was built in 1824 by Larkin and Wheelock Brothers. The present high school building opened in 1907 and is used for both undergraduate and graduate studies. The local newspaper until it merged with The Dispatch in 2013 was "The Morning Sun". In 1916, Streetsboro joined with other townships to form Lorain Township, becoming one of the most populous township governments in Ohio before it lost its autonomy to Lorain County circa 1970s when that county were formed from portions of several older municipalities including Streetsboro Township (which had been part of Lorain Township since 1915).

Streetboro is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio, located on the Scioto River. The population was 2,521 at the 2000 census. The name comes from an Indian word meaning "the place where people go to trade." After Colonel George Washington's military victory over Native Americans at Fallen Timbers in 1793, Streetboro became part of his domain and was known as "Washingtonville." In 1812, Streetboro became a town with a post office and street name system. Streetboro's first school was built in 1814 by John Crampton. The first public library was opened in 1865 by David Starr Jordan. In 1875, the Erie Railroad reached Streetboro and began making tracks through it; this caused many businesses to move out of town and made it difficult for residents to get food or water because the railroad supplied only one store per township. However, some businessmen decided to fight back against the railroad by founding their own company called the First National Bank of Streetboro (later renamed First National Bank). This company became very successful and helped to revive downtown Streetboro after years of decline. In 1907, Edwin Biddle donated land south of Main Street for what would become Ohio State University (OSU). OSU quickly grew into one of Ohio's most important universities and still occupies that location today; however, much of Old Main will be destroyed during construction on new buildings on campus. Streetsboro had long been home to several factories which closed down due to low productivity levels or competition from more efficient plants outside the area; however, many have since reopened thanks to efforts by community organizations like Save Streetsboro Incorporated. The citizens voted in 2002 not to allow Walmart into their town center because they felt that Walmart would destroy local businesses while creating large retailers elsewhere which would compete directly with old-growth businesses like shops such as Sears & Roebuck and JCPenney stores which had been open for centuries before Walmart arrived.
