The village of Stow was founded in 1795 by Christopher Stow and his wife Sarah. In 1814, John Denny founded a ferry service to carry goods between Cleveland and Stow. The first post office was established in 1824. A Presbyterian church was built in 1865 and enlarged in 1895. In 1907, local residents voted to join the United States as a state. On November 3, 1912, President William Howard Taft signed into law the bill creating Ohio's first congressional district (the 11th Congressional District). The new district included all of Stark County except for part of Holmesburg which became part of Columbus County. As an agricultural center for much of its history, Stow has been home to several large dairy farms as well as other businesses including an insurance company and a steel mill. As production shifted from agriculture to light manufacturing during World War II, many jobs were lost in what is now downtown Stow but some remain today such as JBL Audio Company & Technology Center which manufactures sound equipment for movies and music videos as well as home audio products like linear power amplifiers (LPA) and digital audio players/streamers

Stow, Ohio is a small town in Medina County, Ohio. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Toledo Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Stow was French Jesuit Father François de Laval in 1795. He named the village after John Stowe who had been his passenger on a ship from England to France in 1785. In 1802, George Stephenson built a canal through the village and renamed it Lockland after his friend and patron, Lord Lockwood of Stoke Poges. The town's growth began when merchants opened shops in 1834 and by 1840 there were four stores and ten families living in the Village square. By 1850, there were twenty-one businesses with 2,200 residents living in three blocks around Main Street and two other squares: West Market Street between Main and Elm Streets served as an open market place while East Market Street was used as a social center with residences for employees of local mills located on either side of Elm Street. A schoolhouse was built near the lock gates during 1836-37 by subscription from parents of children attending schools within five miles (8 km). A new church was organized in 1849 using $5666 raised by bake sales along main streets throughout Medina County; services began that year. Reverend Troup conducted services until 1861 when he became pastor of Pittsburg Methodist Church which stood across from present day Springdale Elementary School off Maple Road northeast of downtown Stow In 1865 Rev Dr Wm Blythe became pastor due to illness of Rev Troup’s successor From 1870 until its closure during World War I (1914-18), Stow had one post office with thirty-six mailboxes . One hundred citizens subscribed for a water supply system that opened October 24th 1871 consisting of two cisterns each measuring 7 feet 3 inches deep x 5 feet wide x 4 feet high.; service ended September 30th 1915 because inadequate funding caused linefailure
In 1797, James Stow erected a large stone building on the east side of present-day Stow Township in Steuben County, Ohio. The structure was used as a county courthouse and court house until 1810. In 1830, it was replaced by the current courthouse which stands today on the same site.
