The Ohio National Guard was organized on November 15, 1907. The organization was the result of a merger of the Dayton Guards and Stow Guards Companies. The first national guard unit in Ohio was activated on December 3, 1907 at the old Dayton Armory. In 1911, the 8th Infantry Regiment became part of the Ohio National Guard and was redesignated as The West Virginia Mounted Rifles Regiment in 1912. On February 1, 1916, Headquarters and Headquarters Company (8th Infantry) were re-designated as The Ohio National Guard's 4th Battalion (Mechanized). On October 1, 1920, Headquarters and Headquarters Company (4th Battalion) became an independent battalion under command of Brigadier General John S. Pershing III with headquarters located at Camp Chase located in North Arlington Heights Township in Cleveland County. On May 8, 1921 Major General Arthur Niles relieved Major General James Fenton as commanding general for brigade operations in Cleveland County; however this relieved only temporarily because Colonel Robert C. Hickey assumed command from Major General Niles on July 1st effective September 14th until replaced by Lieutenant Colonel Clarence Wickersham effective October 5th due to his promotion to brigadier general that same year which came about through nomination by then Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson who also served as President Wilson's special envoy to Germany during World War I when he recommended that America should enter into a military treaty with Germany providing for dual training between American Legion units and German military forces while we awaited news of peace negotiations being held between our allies Austria-Hungary and Russia etc.). This event signaled a new era within the Ohio National Guard where professionalism replaced populism which characterized many early years including those before World War I when patriotism often outweighed reality or common sense involving actions such as taking arms against Great Britain without its consent or joining forces with Serbia during WWI knowing full well their intentions - these are but two examples illustrating how national guard members had personal relationships with their commanders/ superiors both good and bad which colored their perception towards both men even if not always accurately reflecting what actually transpired behind closed doors

The town of Stow, Ohio is located in the northern part of the state of Ohio. The population was 3,554 at the 2010 census. It is named after George Washington's father-in-law, Timothy Stow. The town was founded in 1819 by General John Brown and his men as a place where they could find shelter from Indian raids. In 1826, it became a part of the United States and was incorporated as a city. The city had a population of 97,512 as of 2014. The history of Stow begins with George Washington's father-in-law, Timothy Stow. He came to America in 1799 and married Mrs. Martha Custis Washington. He served in the War for Independence and helped lay down the rules for trade between Great Britain and the United States during that time period. Afterward he settled in what is now Cincinnati,Ohio., but he continued to visit Cincinnati often to campaign on behalf of independence from England. One day while he was campaigning in Cincinnati, he met Major General Anthony Wayne who told him about an opening for a military post near Fort Meigs which would be close to new settlements being established by Americans across the frontier such as Steubenville and West Point on Long Island Sound (). When General Wayne heard that Timothy Stow might be interested in applying for this post, he sent him back with some letters of recommendation so that Timothy could apply directly to Fort Meigs rather than go through channels like taking care to get letters from people like Captain John Smith or Colonel Lewis Cass (). In 1819, when George Washington's father-in-law applied for the job at Fort Meigs based on his connections with General Wayne, he received an appointment instead because there were no open jobs available at that time within militia units stationed along the borderlands between Great Britain and America due to American successes against Mexican forces during war Forged Together (1812–1821). A few years later when news spread about Mount Vernon having been lost during its construction by Simon Cameron (), TimothyStow decided it would make more sense if he moved his family closer to home so they could continue contributing towards her upkeep (). So after much deliberation (which included discussing things with both Paul Revere () and other members of Congress ()) they relocated their family from Cincinnati back into Ohio just before Christmas 1825 (). He soon found himself appointed captain general () following Paul Revere's warning about British troops encroaching on Ulysses S Grant's army near Vandalia Junction () two weeks earlier on December 9th(), 1825 (). At first TimothyStowe only commanded 1 battalion (), but over time more units were added until eventually his unit numbered 10 companies (). His brigade served under Gen Andrew Jackson throughout most Ofthe Creek War (); including major engagements at New Orleans (), Mobile Bayou (), First Bull Run (), Battle of Tullahoma Creek ()) On November 25th(), 1830() brigadierGeneral James Ketchum relieved him from command effective immediately after hearing reports that Joshua Hill had betrayed Jackson ()); making him one step below lieutenant general status.......
