Stow, Ohio is a small town located in the northwestern part of the United States. The population was 5,711 at the 2010 census and it is the county seat of Lucas County. It is known for its agricultural production, especially corn and beef cattle. The name Stow comes from an early settler named Stephen Stowe.
The first European to visit what is now Stow was John Fitzpatrick in 1779. He named it after his home village of Strathaven in Scotland, although he never set foot there. A post office called "Stowe" was established in 1814, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1821, Samuel Jennings founded a flour mill here that became one of America's largest and most successful enterprises. Other businesses include a shoe store and a cigar store before becoming defunct around 1930s when those industries were replaced by large chemical plants nearby.
