The first people to live in Springfield were the Shawnee Indians who built their village on high ground near where present-day downtown stands. At its creation, Springfield contained 1,500 residents within a radius around Tenth Street SW between High Street and Euclid Avenue SW; today this area is portions of downtown Akron and Middletown.. Unfortunately for Springfield during much of its history economic stagnation followed relatively stationary populations while Dayton enjoyed rapid growth due to its Near East connections during this time period With only 2 cotton mills operating along Third Avenue SE at that time - both located just east side current day Second street - some textile production took place along Third Ave but most manufacturing took place on Canal Street southwest corner Third Ave SE where 3 brickyards operated: Frits Nash & Sons Brickyard Company (founded 1865), Jethro Thomson Brickyards (1869) & Elijah Cummings Factory brickyard company (1875). By 1890 Manufacturing production had increased significantly with 7 factories producing over $100 million worth products That year However beginning to experience significant competition from Dayton especially withinloaf textiles industryossom production began moving towards larger plants like Bickford-Hardwick Paper Mill situated just northeastside Third avenue southwest corner First avenue NE becoming known as The Striped Row mill before being sold to United States Steel Corporation in 1911
