Springdale is a small town in Findlay County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,907 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lima-New Albany-Muncie Metropolitan Statistical Area. springdale is located on the Scioto River and ZIP code 43326. The first settlers in what is now Springdale were German farmers who arrived from Hamburg in 1814. They built log homes and started a grocery store. The name of the town was changed to Springdale because of the April Fool's Day prank by General Washington when he ordered his army to cross the Scioto River without bridges - they did so on Valentine's Day, 1815. In 1868, a post office was established at Springdale and it remained in operation until 1931. The community began expanding rapidly after construction of an Interurban rail line called "the Mayflower" brought new residents and businesses to town in the early 1920s. Businesses included a movie theater (the only one in town), a bank, a machine shop, and several churches including First Baptist Church which still stands today as one of the most prominent buildings in Springdale. In 1956, Elmira High School opened its doors for students after years of planning by Mrs. Addison Hogue with support from her husband Jim Hogue who served as trustee for many years before his death in 2002; that same year also saw the opening of Springdale Elementary School which remains open today as one of Findlay County's most popular schools with more than 1,500 students enrolled grades Pre-K through 12th grade; also during that year Springsville Industrial Park opened providing local employment for many people while Main Street grew quiet again!
