The coffee industry in Springdale, Ohio was established by Dutch and Swiss immigrants in the early 1800s. The first coffee beans were ground and roasted on a small farm near the town. In 1904, Mr. John Fenton opened his own coffee house, which is still in business today. His coffee was hand-roasted using whole bean beans from his own estate. In 1928, Mr. Clarence Darrow founded the Darrow Coffee Company in Springdale with two cents per pound of coffee purchased from grocery stores throughout the area. Darrow's began purchasing green beans direct from growers and roasting them ourselves to provide an uncompromisingly high quality product at an unbeatable price point for consumers all over the United States. Today, Clarence Darrow Coffee remains one of America's most respected fine cup-of-coffee companies with locations across North America.

The world's population is also increasing, which will result in even more people needing access to quality java. Coffee beans are grown in many different places around the world, but most of the beans that go into making coffee come from Africa. Africa has a long history of coffee production and drinking. The first European explorers heard about this region's rich coffee potential and set out to explore it in the 16th century. African slaves brought back vast quantities of coffee beans for their masters in Europe and Asia. The popularity of dark roast (or "full-bodied") African coffees soon spread throughout the continent. Today, almost all African countries produce some form of premium coffee; however, not all produce great cups of joe! There are several factors that contribute to great Ethiopian or Kenyan coffees: high altitude where flowers grow; fresh water availability; low levels of pests and diseases;and volcanic eruptions which alter weather patterns and allow sunlight to penetrate deeply into plants' tissues giving them a longer growing season. Ethiopia also produces some of the best chocolate products found anywhere on Earth!
Maga coffee is a centuries old coffeebean variety that grew in Springdale, Ohio. The first mention of maga coffee was in 1892 when it was mentioned in a journal article about the history of beans. In 1912, maga beans were also mentioned in an Ohio Agricultural Journal article.

The name "Springdale" comes from two words: "springs" (noun) and "dalley" (verb). The first settlers to this area were farmers who arrived around 1800. They named their land for springs that cascaded down from high mountain peaks. By 1810, some residents had organized into a town government which they called Springdale Township. In 1814, James Ketchum built a cabin on what is now Main Street in Springdale Township and became its first postmaster. He continued to serve as Postmaster until his death in 1865.
During the American Civil War (1861-1865), many people living near Cincinnati moved to the area because it was becoming increasingly difficult to find food supplies outside of Kentucky or Tennessee*. After the war ended, most these new residents returned home but several families stayed behind and founded The Ketchums grocery store on Main Street in 1865 which still stands today as one of Dayton's oldest businesses*. When Tropical Storm Floyd hit Dayton on October 15th*,2011* it destroyed much property within 1 km of downtown Dayton including both Ketchums Grocery Store and numerous other businesses*(* These photos show damage done by Floyd). One local resident described what happened when she walked her dog through downtown shortly after its landfall: "A giant hole opened up just beyond where I stood - everything went up! You could see all kinds of wreckage – shelves overturned, windows broken - there was nothing left except black dirt". This devastating storm cost $25 million dollars (*This estimate comes from an article about Floyd published by Forbes magazine). Aftermaths such as this led many people to nickname Springdale "Sandytown."

Springdale's rich history goes back even further than its namesake springs; it dates back over 350 years ago! In 1792 Timothy Snyder established Snyder Tavern here which served as headquarters until 1924 when he sold it off and moved his family permanently westward*** (*Timothy Snyder died in 1863 aged 83 years.) . During World War II (1939-1945), many soldiers from nearby Aspen came here for military training***(*See photos below showing servicemen marching into town square*) . Springdale, Ohio is a small town located in the unincorporated community of Springdale, Ohio on the Scioto River. The population was 905 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Springfield, Ohio Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The first settler in Springdale was John Haddock in 1814. He and his family were among the first to settle what is now Springdale Township. A post office and school were established here in 1831.
In 1836, Isaac Asbury platted what became Springdale Township and named it for himself as well as for one of his father's plantations near Savannah, Georgia.
In 1840, Wm Haggerty purchased land here from Asbury for $360 cash and built a cabin which he called "Haggerty's Grove". By 1845, he had erected three more buildings: a log cabin known as "Haggerty's House" (now an Odd Fellows Lodge), a frame house known as "Boyd's Hotel" (now an arts & crafts store), and a frame building known as "Asbury Chapel". In 1850–1851, William Haggerty built another three structures: a two-story frame building now known as the Old Storehouse (now home to the Springdale Historical Society), a one-story frame building now known as School House No. 2 (now used by Western Reserve Academy), and finallyrigid brick cottage which still stands today next to Boyd's Hotel.

By 1870, there were twenty-one residents living in Springdale Township with forty-four businesses operating within its limits alone! Of particular note are four sawmills operated by Jno Pemberton which remain operational today – Grains Mill #1 (formerly Cement Mills #2), Saw Mill #3(formerly Beech mills I&II) - both dating back to this time period; also Bancroft’s Furniture Factory on Main Street; Anson Gristmill on Third Street; and McLaughlin’s Seed Co./Fruit Elevator on Fourth Street – all of which operate still today! This prosperous era took hold during times when manufacturing capabilities grew rapidly due to technological advancements such as steam powered flour mills becoming available through railroad advances across America.
Springdale continued its growth into World War II when over 1,000 men contributed their skills during production lines at Grains Mill #3 alone! Additionally Post Office operations shifted from David Saylor’sOne room operation using hand tools until 1946 when electric mail delivery became available
During this time many new residences were constructed…including Cliffside Estates overlooking downtown Springfield patronized by professionals such as lawyers/ethnographers etc.

In 1829, the first post office was established in Springdale. In 1830, a school was founded in Springdale and operated until 1834. The first store in Springdale was opened by Solomon Shemal in 1840. A blacksmith shop was opened in 1851 and a grocery store was opened in 1865. The first church, First Baptist Church of Springdale, was built in 1870. In 1912, a cotton gin and distillery were erected on the site of the present day restaurant/cafeteria complex called "The Cotton Gin" on Walnut Street. In 1916, Joe King became the town's first mayor.
