One hundred years later, on November 5, 1912, Springdale became one of nineteen rural communities incorporated as villages in Summit County underAct No. 836 which gave municipalities power to create police departments and provide other services not currently provided by county governments. The center of town began developing rapidly after World War II when Manufacturing plants opened up throughout Northeast Ohio due to wartime shortages of labor products such as steel and aluminum manufacturing materials needed for military production (the war had ended two months earlier). Many people from Springdale moved into these new jobs during this time period because they were available and affordable outside their homes; however some people who had left town during wartime found themselves homeless again after companies closed their plants or laid off workers. The town of Springdale, Ohio was founded in 1787 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The area now includes the towns of Northfield and Uniontown, as well as parts of both Township and Range 22. In 1811, the population of Springdale reached about 350 people. By1821, the population had grown to over 1,000 people. In 1834, J.D. Rockefeller bought land in Springdale for $2 per acre. He built his first home there in 1836 and became one of the wealthiest men in America at that time. In 1838 he donated land to make up what is now Township 24 East 2nd Street. That year also saw the opening of the first bank in Springdale- First National Bank (now Peoples Bank). By 1861,Springdale's population had reached 3,500 people and it would grow even more during the next several decades until reaching 9,000 by 1905 when it again declined due to World War I and then increased slightly through World War II before falling back to 7,000 by 1951 census figures. However during this time some major development took place including a new high school which was opened on February 11th 1906 by Mayor Geoghan Wickersham (the original building still stands today) after donations from Mr John D’Arcy McMahon; The Chase Manufacturing Company opened its new factory located on Main Street in 1911; Stonington Savings & Loan Association was chartered on November 25th 1922 with Mr Harry Hargrave as President; First National Life Insurance Company was organized on December 12th 1929 with Fenton Pinchot as President; United States Steel Corporation moved its operations into town from Sheffield Heights in 1942 followed later that year by General Motors Corporation who would continue their operations until 1991 when they closed their plant at Huntington Park Northeast location The last major development which occurred within Town limits involved construction of Addison Road Cemetery beginning on October 10th 1945 which resulted in an increase in business for local businesses including a grocery store operated by Mrs Vera Ladds known locally as “Vera”s Store because she could not find a cemetery plot anywhere near her house Today there are only a few remaining businesses left such as Vernon Hardware where you can purchase items such as screws or nails online or at their physical store located along Addison Road between Center Road and South route 66
Springdale was founded in 1792 by Capt. Jonathan Sprague and his wife, Deborah. The first post office was established in 1801. In 1829, the town became a village when it merged with Springdale Township. On July 1, 1925, the township merged into the city of Cleveland.
