South Euclid is a city in the northern part of Ohio, United States. The population was 20,693 at the 2010 census. The city is named after South Euclid Creek, which flows through it. It was settled by English settlers in the 1810s and 1830s. The first post office in town was established in 1824. In 1840, John C. Ransom bought land adjacent to what is now South Euclid Creek from the Ecorse Township trustees for $1,000 cash and donated it to the town as a parkland donation. That same year, Ransom also founded the first school in town – South Euclid Academy – with three students and $5 per month for teachers from his own resources. In 1865, when South Euclid became a city, Ransom donated all of his remaining land to the city for municipal use; that same year he died at age 98 years old. The city's current boundaries were set by an act of the Ohio General Assembly on January 12, 1911; it extended from east side of I-675 (now US-33) to west side of I-675 (now US-36) and included most of what is now North Euclid Township except for portions including present day East Side Square and parts of Green Lawn Heights and West Side Square within its borders until those areas were annexed by North Euclid Township on December 15th 1959. South Euclid, Ohio is a small town in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Ohio. It is located approximately 20 miles (32 km) southwest of Cleveland and 10 miles (16 km) northeast of Akron. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. South Euclid has been home to many pioneers in its history, including John Forbes Paul Revere and his grandson Joel Revere who were both famous for their travelogue writing and civil disobedience during the American Revolution. In 1814, when General Winfield Scott's army invaded southern Erie County, South Euclid was one of the few settlements to remain loyal to the United States and fight against British forces. The Battle of South Euclid took place on November 6, 1814 near present-day Old North Market Street and Riverside Drive in what is now part of Cleveland Heights neighborhood, as well as other battles fought throughout that year in central Ohio. On December 10, 1815 President James Ketchum issued an executive order declaring war against Great Britain after learning about British plans to invade Canada via Lake Erie; this led to a series of skirmishes between American militia forces and British regulars throughout December and January 1816 before hostilities came fully into play on January 26th when an English squadron under Commodore George Watson attacked southbound merchant ships off Lake Erie's shoreline. Although smallpox pandemic had started ravaging America by 1796 etching fears around inoculated communities like South Euclid during 1797-1801 yellow fever epidemics also swept through these places often leaving behind death certificates with notes such as "Not died from Pox but from Indians." In 1800s most diseases killed within 2-4 years however some like Smallpox Spread quickly across entire countryside killing everyone living close by without any protection which forced people relocate or migrate out several times during those years due droughts/plagues etc..
