Gourmet Coffee History in South Euclid, Ohio South Euclid is a vibrant community located in the heart of Cleveland’s west side. The first espresso machine was built in South Euclid in 1912 by Italian immigrants Angelo and Carlo Petrini. It was used to make small quantities of coffee for their own use and for sale to other customers at the local grocery store. At that time, espresso machines were very difficult to purchase and use, so most people relied on brewing methods learned from their families or friends who had experience with them. In 1922, Luigi Gagliardi opened his first espresso business called Gagliardi’s Coffee & Café. It was located on Superior Avenue just east of Lorain Street. This establishment became famous for its fine Italian-made espresso drinks and delicious pastries made from scratch daily by Luigi himself. The café continued to serve great food until it closed in 1974 due to health concerns relating to garlic oil used in its cooking process. In 1954, Roberto Mattioli opened his first gourmet coffee house called Mattioli’s Cafeteria on West 125th Street in South Euclid Heights neighbourhood near Progressive Field baseball park (now part of University Circle). This establishement soon became well known throughout Cleveland for its excellent quality espresso drinks and mouthwatering desserts made fresh every day by pastry chef Roberto Mattioli himself – one of the city’s original success stories! South Euclid is a city in Miami County, Ohio, United States. The population was 24,824 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. South Euclid's history dates back to 1820 when it was known as Houghton Heights. In that year, John Houghton and his brother David bought 640 acres (248 km²) on the east side of the Cuyahoga River from Nicholas Hanna. They named their new settlement South Euclid after Humphrey Southwell, an Englishman who had settled in what is now Toledo in 1795. The first permanent settler in South Euclid was Jesse Fenton, who arrived in 1822. In 1825, a group of men from Cleveland sold 4 square miles (10 km²) of land to Lucius Niles for $3,000. Niles turned it into a town andnamed it South Euclid because he saw this area as being more easily defended than other parts of Cleveland because it rested on high ground between two rapids on the Cuyahoga River. The town's first store opened in 1830 and its first school in 1832 under the direction of Drury McDowell Jr., one of America's most accomplished educators at that time. The village grew slowly until around 1850 when construction began on what would become known as "the great white bridge". This large arch span over the Cuyahoga River became one of those iconic symbols associated with American cities such as Chicago and New York City; it helped define South Euclid's identity both visually and economically. By 1870, however, only 10 families lived there; by 1920 only 3 remained active residents despite much economic development taking place within walking distance throughout that decade including several factories which produced everything from automobiles to uniforms for soldiers during World War I In 1924-1925 local resident Joseph Laughlin developed plans for what would become Waugh Park; today Waugh Park offers excellent views of downtown Cleveland while also providing opportunities for sports such as basketball and baseball teams as well as picnic areas complete with bathrooms . Development continued apace through the 1940s with numerous apartment buildings becoming available along with stores like Sears Roebuck & Company opening their doors until annexation by Cleveland led to significant reductions in population density across southern Euclid starting around 1950 During this time many homes were demolished or replaced with larger blocks developments which have since become popular tourist attractions due to their unique architecture

The town of South Euclid, Ohio was founded in 1814 by a group of citizens from the village of Euclid. The town developed as a small community with a single store and post office. The first school was built in 1820, and the first Methodist church was built in 1826. In 1933, South Euclid became part of the City of Cleveland metropolitan area. Today, South Euclid is a thriving community with a strong economic future. It has strong cultural ties to its nearby city, and its local businesses are well-known throughout Greater Cleveland.
The first white person to live in the area now known as South Euclid was John C. Pickering, who settled in 1821. Pickering ran a tannery and grist mill on the present-day east side of Euclid Road. In 1827, he sold his land and started a school on what is now Harrison Street. In 1829, he built a store and post office on what is now State Road 7A near the intersection of Harrison and Euclid Roads. The first courthouse in Ohio was built on the site of today's South Euclid High School in 1830.
