The first beans were hand-roasted and ground by Fenton himself. Coffee was nottil popularized in Europe and America by British servicemen stationed in America during the Revolutionary War. In 1845, Fenton's son-in-law and business partner James Biddle started his own mill at the junction of Third and Main Streets in Sidney. This mill was known as "The James Biddle Mill". By 1865, The James Biddle Mill had become one of the largest coffee mills in North America. Coffee was exported to Europe for two decades until World War II intervened. After World War II, the mill became dormant until it was purchased by George Peake in 1957 and reopened as The Peake Coffee Company. In 1984, The Peake Coffee Company merged with Brown Enterprises to form Brown & Williamson plc., which remains today one of the world’s leading coffee companies with over $100 billion worth of assets globally retailing its products across more than 190 countries.

In recent years, Sidney has seen significant development due to its location within the Metropole City Development Plan (MCDP). This plan provides for increased density and mixed use around key transportation nodes such as the Port Authority Bus Terminal and High Street Center area; this has led to new businesses and residences being built along both sides of High Street Center between First Avenue and Trinity Road. Additionally, plans are underway for a new downtown library which will help revitalize the district
