The Sidney, Ohio Army National Guard Armory was established in 1917 as the armory of the First Battalion, Sixth Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. The first building was a two-story frame structure on State Street that served as the command and control center for the unit. In 1919, the battalion moved to a new and larger facility on Perrysburg Road which became known as "the pentagon." The pentagon became an iconic symbol of the armory and its role within the military community. The Sidney, Ohio Army National Guard Armory played an important role in World War II. It helped produce over 1 million rifles and pistols for use by United States forces. Additionally, it produced artillery pieces, tanks, aircrafts, and other equipment. The armory also hosted many Victory Day celebrations throughout the war years. In 1945, following World War II's ended European possessions were transferred to the United States. As a result of this change in policy, the Sidneyarmy national guard Armory was no longer responsible for production of weapons destined for either Europe or Asia. However, it continued to serve as an important tool for US military organizations until its closure in 1994.

The Sidney Volunteer Infantry Regiment was organized on December 12, 1861, in Sidney, Ohio. The regiment was mustered into service on January 3, 1862. It served in the Ohio Union army until March 1865. The regiment lost its entire complement of officers and men during the war.

They also have an athletic team that participates in both local high school leagues and the Greater Muskingum League Division III football conference which includes teams from other Midwestern towns such as Mansfield, Cleveland Heights and Parma Heights as well as Trumbull County seats like Youngstown and Lucasville

Sidney also has several convenience stores including Kohl's Department Store, Sears Department Store, Wawa American Grill & Buffet, and Dunkin' Donuts Corporation store which are all open 24 hours per day!
