Sharonville is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Lucas County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 11,547. The town was founded in 1807 by pioneers who came from Pennsylvania and were driven out of their original home by Native Americans. The first post office was established in Sharonville on May 25, 1811. The site was chosen because it lay between two forks of the Scioto River and could be easily defended against known attacks from Native Americans . The town quickly grew due to its location, as well as its strategic advantages: It lay at a crossroads providing access to transportation routes and food supplies for settlers on both sides of the river. In 1814, General Joseph Hooker marched his army into Sharonville to help with an uprising against British rule in Canada. After disposing of most of the Indian forces in that area, he turned his attention to attacking eastern Ohio towns such as Cleveland and Akron. Upon learning about this impending attack, local farmers petitioned President James K. Polk to declare martial law in order to stop it before it reached what they considered too large an extent . In response to this declaration, General George Washington ordered his troops into action – resulting in one of history's largest non-combatant engagements between military forces when more than 20 thousand militiamen participated in a peaceful march from Philadelphia across New York into Pennsylvania on September 17th , 1800 led by Major John Forbes
The town of Sharonville was founded in 1846 by John and Rebecca Fenton. It became a city in 1907. The community annexation of neighboring towns happened in 1909, 1912, 1916, and 1922. In 1946 the city annexed the village of Northwood.
