The first coffee shop in Sharonville opened on North Main Street between West Third and West Fourth Streets in 1837. A year later, the first retail store opened at 5th Street and State Road 9 northwest of downtown Sharonville. In 1840, a group of farmers purchased land east of Center Street near the intersection with High Street for a coffee plantation called "South Park". The beans were ground here until 1942 when they were moved to nearby Parma Heights for processing.

The first settler in Sharonville was Jonas Linebaugh, who arrived in 1788. By 1800, there were ten households and fourteen families residing in Sharonville. The first school in Sharonville was built on what is now the corner of Park and Wood Streets. In 1814, Benjamin Fenton opened a store in what is now the heart of town. A post office called Sharonville was established in 1829, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1830, settlers from Canada came toOhio to homestead land near Portsmouth on the Scioto River. They named their new community after Mount Vernon, Virginia (now Arlington). In 1836, Wm Potter moved his family to Sharonville from Athens Township and purchased land east of town from John Doherty for $600/. He began building a house on Main Street which became known as the "Potter House." Sharonville is a small town in Ohio, United States. The population was 517 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Athens-Clarke County, Ohio Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Sharonville was Captain John A. Smith who arrived on July 14, 1814 and built a cabin near the present day intersection of High Street and Lenox Road. In 1826, Wm. Buhl opened a store in what is now the town center (now occupied by the local library). In 1830, George Hinkle bought land east of Main Street from James Grieve for $5 per acre. He built an inn and started to sell goods from his store until he sold out in 1836 to Isham Lewisohn and moved his business to Washington Township, Pennsylvania. In 1840, Solomon Fenton established himself as a merchant in town with his store on the banks of the Monongahela River opposite modern day Ligonier Elementary School. A few years later he erected a large frame building which served as both his store and home until it burned down in 1849. The first post office was established at Sharonville on October 12, 1846 by Larkin Ewing with Pemberton as its first editor. The name change came about because Postmaster General Amos Kendall wanted all US Postal Service postal offices operating under one name so that there would be less confusion when mail arrived addressed incorrectly or not at all! In 1861 Shoshone County was created within Ohio; however no change occurred to the name of Sharonville except for use of "Sharon" instead of "Ohio". The last resident died December 6th 1912 leaving three daughters behind: Minnie Meeks (born 1865), Myrtle Meeks (1868), and Ruth Meeks (1871). At that time only girls could receive education through school department providing only 2nd grade through 12th grade but also able to work although their father still owned property &c etc.; so sisters became teachers but continued keeping housework up to date thru teen years; this arrangement ended when state law changed making girls children of legal age starting with 8th grade!
