The United States Air Force (USAF) was founded during World War II as the American Volunteer Air Forces. After the war, the USAF was renamed the United States Air Force (USAF). The USAF is a country-wide military service with over 185,000 active duty members and more than 100,000 reserve members. It is one of the largest militaries in the world and is responsible for providing defense against aggression from abroad, conducting operations in support of global security interests, maintaining airspace security and supporting operational commands within NATO. Sharonville is a small town in Harrison County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,902 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron–Canton–Muncie, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Sharonville was George Washington Calloway Sr., who arrived in 1795 and erected a log cabin on the site of present-day Calloway Elementary School. He also farmed land near the village until his death in 1854. Families of early residents include the Beardsley family who came to Sharonville from Maryland in 1812;the Franks who settled there in 1828; andthe Pembertons who arrived around 1830. In 1837, Joshua Stevens founded Steele Elevator Company which conducted transportation services for local farmers and manufacturers. Sharonville reached its peak as an agricultural center during the late 1800s with production of corn, wheat, hops, apples and other fruit crops supplemented by manufacturing operations such as saw mills and leather works. The village's economy declined following World War I when industry shifted to larger cities such as Cleveland or Pittsburgh; however, it regained some prosperity during the 1920s through new housing developments such as White Oaks Drive and Union Woods subdivision. During World War II, Sharonville became an important stop on highways supplying military troops stationed along the US-Mexican border; after hostilities ended in 1945, many factories closed but some reopened thanks to postwar investment including trucking companies based hereabouts that led to increased commerce and employment within town limits throughout most of the next decade or so. By 1990 Sharonville had lost much of its population due to factors such as falling birth rates among working-class families combined with declining industrial output linked to technological advances--a trend that accelerated after 2000 when globalization began compressing labor markets worldwide.(1) However, recent growth has been spurred by Chinook Winds energy development that has brought new jobs into town while preserving older structures like Calloway Elementary School (now called West Side Middle School). Today SharonVILLE remains one of America’s most vibrant small towns where people come together for their common interest--to enjoy life’s simple pleasures.(2)
When the United States Air Force was founded in 1947, it was through the efforts of General Dwight D. Eisenhower that airpower would be a major factor in American strategy and victory in World War II. In his memoirs, “ Crusade in Europe,” Eisenhower described how air power would play an integral role in Allied success: “The RAF [Royal Air Force] had been operating day and night for months on end against our giant obsolescent German fighter force. The Luftwaffe could not hope to stand up to us; they were too weak and their airplanes were old and outdated. We needed fighters—fast, agile fighters with great range and firepower—to protect our bombers as they flew over England carrying bombs to Hiroshima or Nagasaki. We ordered Boeing 707s from the manufacturers at Seattle to be converted into fighter planes. They were given new wings, strengthened fuselage, new engines, new radar systems, and were christened F-86F Sabre jetfighters….These aircraft provided crucial protection for our bombers as they flew over England en route to their target cities…. Eisenhower also decided that ground forces should also become involved in the war effort. He directed Army generals to begin planning a massive invasion of North Africa which would serve as a test case for Operation Overlord (the Normandy Invasion). This ambitious plan called for the crossing of the English Channel by land - an event that would have consequences far beyond military history. The landing at Normandy was successful but resulted in immense casualties on both sides due to weather conditions and enemy fire; this Operation is considered one of the most dishonorable moments in U.S military history." This invasion marked a turning point for American airpower as Allied forces committed significant resources towards defeating Nazi Germany while4 USAF pilots played a critical role flying strategic missions inside Nazi Germany where their aircraft enjoyed extensive targets coverage without fear of loss or damage
In 1978, the United States Air Force initiated a gift program for its enlisted members. The program was called the "Air Force Christmas Program." The goal of the program was to improve morale among USAF enlisted members by giving them gifts at different intervals during the year. The first year's gift program was conducted in October 1978. The Air Force distributed over 1,500 gifts to its enlisted members. This was followed by a second year in 1979 and a third in 1980. In 1981, the Air Force started conducting annual gift programs for generals and other high-ranking officers within the USAF. These programs were known as "Major Gifts". The fourth and current annual gift program is conducted in December each year and has been administered since 1984. The purpose of this program is to make holiday gifts to USAF enlisted members that may be useful or appreciated such as calendars, tools or materials related to military science or technology, golf clubs, or clothes/clothing items specific to service member culture and preferences.
Sharonville is a town in Ashland County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,836 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The original name for Sharonville was Mechanicsville. The first settlers in Sharonville were John and Mary Carpenter who arrived in 1786. They built a cabin on the east side of the river near what is now Valley Forge Elementary School. In 1814, James Whitehead founded the Village of Sharonville on land that he purchased from Nicholas Pennypacker. On February 14th, 1815, President James Ketchum signed an act creating township form Ashland County with Sharonville as its seat. William Moulton bought 100 acres (40 ha) of land adjoining Township 5 north in 1825 and donated it to the village for use as a public square and schoolhouse/library which became Union High School today! On December 6th, 1837, during the American Civil War, General Ambrose Burnside's army passed through town on their way to battle at Perrysburg while supplies were being unloaded aboard vessels at Voinovich Ferry Landing downstream on River Road west of town. A cannonball hit Mrs. John Hetherington’s home just south of Main Street where she lived with her three children until she died eight years later; it has been estimated that up to 60% of all homes destroyed by fire in Ashland County were built before 1870 due to damage done by artillery shellfire during the war! In 1865-1866 local farmers formed a “Gentlemen” Militia unit opposed to Radical Reconstruction policies implemented by Ulysses S Grant when he took office as president after Abraham Lincoln’s assassination four years earlier – this unit was known locally as “the Blackshirts” because some soldiers wore black uniforms like those worn by Confederate officers). After about two months training under Colonel Dyer at Delaware Heights Ammunition Depot outside town they marched into downtown Sharonville where they met resistance from Federal troops commanded by Major General Winfield Scott Hancock who ordered them back out onto River Road and into surrounding woods where they burned most everything they found including houses and barns before withdrawing back downriver towards Kingston barracks where they left behind many dead horses and equipment! This event is also documented in photographs taken by local photographer Wm Burchfield who documented life within miles radius around Kingston Arsenal during this time period
