The population was 61,822 as of the 2010 census, making it the third-largest municipality within Cleveland County. The first coffeehouses were opened in Shaker Heights by farmers in 1795. These early cafes served local residents and visitors who could not afford to purchase coffee beans from larger grocery stores. By 1830, one such cafe had become a popular stop for business women on their way home from work or going to the market. By 1835, Shaker Heights had over 20 coffee houses and was considered one of the most fashionable areas in all of Cleveland because of its high quality coffee products and vibrant lifestyle. In 1861, Shaker Heights became an incorporated borough which allowed for more businesses to operate within its boundaries - including coffeehouses - and also helped promote café culture throughout the town. One such notable Coffee House owner was Ebenezer Eaton who ran a successful bakery and gift shop called The Gilded Cage until his death in 1886 at the age of 80 years old. Eaton's passion for coffee began when he worked at his grandfather's grocery store before moving up through his family's business into retail ownership himself by 1900. Eaton is credited with helping to spread bean-growing technology throughout America during his time as a retailer while also helping promote espresso drinks as an alternative to tea due to his dislike of black tea made with low quality spices etcetera). In 1912, two brothers named Harry Baumann started brewing their own unique types of coffee using whole beans rather than ground beans which would later be known as "Shakeology". Shaker Heights was founded by the Shakers in 1688 and saw its peak in population around 1820. The original Shaker community burned down in 1825 after disagreements over religious beliefs led to a social disruption known as the Great Shaker Uprising. However, the town did continue to grow and change until it disappeared from view during the late 19th century when industrial development took over much of central Ohio. Today, there are few reminders of Shaker Heights' past – only a few buildings remain from when it was one of America's most active towns. But those that remain offer insights into how this small town came to be where it is today and what made it so unique among central Ohio's other villages and towns. The first mention of Shaker Heights comes from an early guidebook which called it "a very neat village." In 1798, surveyors noted that there were "about seventy-five families" living within its boundaries but no evidence suggests they ever built any houses or erected any railroads here – instead their focus seems to have been on worshiping their own Godhead inside their own community instead of joining with others nearby (see map). What followed were several years of growth as people continued to move into what is nowShaker Heights from all around central Ohio: people who had come for religious reasons or because they needed secure land; men working on building new roads; farmers coming to market; newcomers moving into villages looking for opportunity and stability. Shaker Heights is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio, located on the border of Geauga and Summit counties. The population was 19,905 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. The first settlers in Shaker Heights were Congregationalists who arrived in 1788 from Canterbury, England. Shaker Heights was incorporated as a village on March 15, 1814, from parts of Caldwell and Mentor townships. On November 14, 1824 it became a town after being approved by the General Assembly of Ohio. On February 3, 1827 it became one of three cities in Cleveland when it amalgamated with neighboring Parkview and Lawrenceville to form what is now Cleveland Metropole Township (Cleveland Municipal District number 9). On February 25, 1907 Shaker Heights annexed Mentor Township which made it its second largest city east of the Mississippi River behind Cleveland proper. In 1912 Shaker Heights erected its first electric streetlights and began electrifying all public services within its limits; this event marked an important milestone for the community as electric lights replaced gas lights at most businesses and residences within weeks across most areas except for central business district where gas lights continued to be used until 1937. In 1956 Shaker Heights established their own water system which continues to serve today as one of America's oldest municipally run water systems. In 1990s Shakers removed asbestos insulation from their homes in order to create more environmentallyfriendly dwellings which has since led to them becoming an advocate for green building practices around the world. In 2013-2014 they partnered with Climbing Wall Trust USA as well as local civic organizations to install new climbing walls that offer climbing opportunities for children 7 years old and younger.
